So I rear-ended someone today

Accelerating onto the highway, some ass-hat decides to cut across 2 lanes of traffic. Everyone slams on the brakes. I tried to brake and avoid the car in front of me, but I couldn't stop quite in time. I just barely made contact with the rear bumper of the car in front of me. Caused a few gouges to the front bumper, but nothing major. He tells the Cop that I hit him hard enough to push him into the next car. Cops don't charge anyone and tell me that they are at the exact same spot everyday for the same thing.

The worst part is that it was the wife's car I was driving and now she pissed.

hula_balu 29-Aug-2008 07:42 PM

sorry to hear that. where was this?

DumbasSi 29-Aug-2008 08:02 PM

QEW in Hamilton. Centennial Parkway and the new Red Hill Expressway both merge onto the QEW at the same spot, so there is 2 lanes trying to merge at the same time and place into traffic. I've seen the exact same accident happen a few times now, but this time it was first hand.

sorry to hear :( hope everything gets fixed without reason and everything with insurance is ok.

k_r_a_c_k_e_r 29-Aug-2008 08:57 PM

sucks to hear!

T-MacK 29-Aug-2008 09:42 PM

I feel your pain....a similar imcident happened to me 2 years a'go.

zyepher 30-Aug-2008 10:26 AM

Nothing you can do.

DumbasSi 30-Aug-2008 02:52 PM

I'm just concerned about what my insurance company will do. This will be my second accident in 2 year's. A new bumper for the Mini is about $900 (bumper, paint, labour, tax) so I'm not even going to claim it. But, I will probably be at-fault for hiting the other car. The cop did say that because of this type of accident and that the same location is plagued with accidents, the insurance company might just blame everyone equaly.

spike 30-Aug-2008 02:55 PM

damn the sucks man.

kingjames1983 31-Aug-2008 04:08 AM

make a mental note for when the wife screws up. Other then that... **** happens

starboy869 31-Aug-2008 04:30 AM

I bet the other person will milk the insurance company for just about everything.

I would too.

DumbasSi 31-Aug-2008 11:43 AM

I hope not. There was practically no damage to their POS Sunfire. I at least tried to brake and avoid them. The rest of them just slammed on their brakes. I'm starting to hate driving.

Eastend hamilton always drive like they own the road, people there are so rude and have zero manners on the road.

not true...its generally 95% the car that rear ends the other car's fault but like everything there are exceptions

Yes you have to report it to your insurance company as a record that the accident happened. Otherwise if the other person decides to sue you for injuries, they will not have record of exactly what happened. Did you go to the police station to report the accident? i think you have to go within 24 hr of the accident, they take a picture of the damage and you have to give a statement. So yeah just report it even if your not making a claim.
