Man some people need to show a little bit of compassion! So many people are happy you got the ticket. Frankly, I feel a bit for you. And I doubt you said that comment in a tone which would be offending to the cop (If so then yes that was dumb) Sometimes, I say stupid stuff to cops, but not seriously and they get a good chuckle. But yeah guys he didn't know the cop was writing him up for 10 over before he made the remark so lighten up a bit.

Damn man, that was pretty smooth. Here is how you actually get to have a victory over the cop that pulled you over. Take the ticket, say nothing except to answer a question, then take it to court.

Anything that you say to stick in the cops mind, especially childish jabs at what is probably a sore point for him, i.e. the truth about why he's writing you a ticket, is only going to make him remember you and the stop in more detail.

After making no impression whatsover on the cop, take it to court. This is the only place in the entire world where you can win against a cop. Not in a donut shop, not in a parking lot, and certainly not at the side of the road with him handing you a ticket.

Why feel sorry for the fool who shoots himself in the foot?

As for tone, I can say F=you in a dead flat monotone tone that in itself surely couldn't be considered offensive. But the message behind the words count just as much as the delivery.

I should go out and get a ticket too and see if that works! Nah, nevermind, my insurance is already high enough.
