rolled into this lady...what to do!
I got into an accident about 48 hours ago. It was my fault, where i kind of rolled into the person in front of me in the right turn lane. I had assumed she was going to roll up a little further and misjudged by bumping her car. There wasn't much damage just some paint scuffed off on her bumper from my front lincense plate bolt...the size of a pinky finger nail.
Anyhow, we exchanged information and whatnot and i agreed to pay for the damages. My question is, since 48 hrs has past, does that in any way make this accident invalid? Such as she won't be able to report this to the insurance even if she wanted to? Also, would this put me in the clear? For example she wants to rape me for xxxx amount of $$ and clearly it's unreasonable and fictious...can i go tell her to f-off?
I guess what i'm trying to say is there a time limit of how long i should legally feel responsible.

Your dreaming, and you sound like a loser who is trying to get away with an accident you're at fault for.
Do the right thing, pay the lady off and call it a day.
You're legally responsible until you take care of your business. The lady can call the insurance company any time she wants and say that you agreed to settle it outside of insurance.
If you do agree to settle outside of insurance, make sure you both sign a release letter saying that you have paid up and released of further action.

Ok, i worded a bit wrong about telling her to f-off. I mean to pay her....was just curious if there was a time limit to report the incident to the insurance...but since your saying she can report it any time i guess it rules that out.
So onto my second question....if down the line she would report it, would my insurance verify with me that the particular incident took place?
I've read serval threads indicating that the other party later-on went to report it and the person @ question found out later when time came to renew their insurance. If so, this leaves an open window for the plaintiff to exploit the matter...possibly claiming anything the mind can conjure up.

If she does report it, you have something in writing that says you have settled it.
Make sure to give a certified check or money order so you have additional proof to show you have taken care of your business.

when something like this happened to me, i wrote the guy a cheque.
in the memo field, i wrote something to the effect of the following.
full payment for accident on DATE.
if they cash it.. they pretty much agree with the memo... so that's the end of that.

Thank you all for the advice!
She hasn't contacted me yet for a damage quote and it's been a week...kinda sucks because now i have to suspend the frivolous spending until when/if she contacts me.
Good to know in the event she does call me; will be keeping a record of everything.

wow talk about being an a$$.
you bump into her.
she has the curtousy to give you a break and settle out of insurance and you want to screw her over?
wow hope u get ****ed thru your ***.
its people like you that make people not want to help out other people.
to answer your questions:
she can report it anytime within a year.
she can decide to not accept your offer and go to the insurance
she cannot do both (take your money and go to insurance)
but she can do it if you dont have valid proof ie. reciept with both parties signatures on it.

Whoa.....wait a second. Who said i was trying to get out of it? It was a question that I wanted clarification on and i gave an example....and somewhere along the line assumed that was the action I was going to take.
I did correct myself for improper wording as it was just an "example"....albeit drastic yes, for that i am to blame. I have admitted to all my faults in this situation, prepared to take responsibility and not once did i try to deviate from that...even to the point where, yes i have to save money to pay for this mistake of mine.
if you want to talk about people's behaviour...this can be looked upon as a prime example of misinterpretation where one person cries witch and everybody shouts for an execution....
I actually didn't even bother to rebutle jooksingkid's comments because I deserved it for making it seem like i was going to shaft the lady. So here is a thought....perhaps I should lie next time and make myself to be the victim to guage a proper response/reaction.....because it seems most people do not admit that it is their fault.....the justice system has been using it for centuries after all, seems like a proven method to me.
Anyways, Thank You for the later half of your input....thats what i was looking for...that she has a year to report it. Oh yeah, I did not offer her an amount...I left it open and suggested she get a quote.....guess i will continue to wait for her call.

It only takes maybe 1/2 hr to get a quick repair quote, I don't see how you need to wait 1 week+ ya know.

2 years ago, a lady bumped into my car on a stop-and-go traffic on 401 West. The damage caused one of the bumper underside plate to broke and some scratches. We moved the cars to the shoulder and somehow, she contacted her gf and they wanted to settle this outside of insurance. I think police showed (not sure if she called or he just happened to be in the area) and helped her to write the information slip, and I did my part and off we went.
Then on my way home, I called her house and spoke to her mother, telling her what happened in a very calming manner, so she won't freak out cause no one got hurt, just little things. I told her I will go get a quote the next day.
So I went to a body shop and got a quote, and a typed out cost estimate. I called her and told her the value. She agreed to it and we met up at a coffee shop, she typed up a letter of agreement indicating that basically she paid me x amount of money to fix my bumper and I cannot report this incident to insurance company. I signed both copies and that was that.
There were other times where I got rear ended and the damage was small, so I didn't mind. I mean, it is a bumper, urethane part that is meant to take damages, not like it is going to rust. A little indent from the screws happen all the time. She probably didn't mind it but I would give her a call and make an offer, like say, 100 bucks and see what she says. If she agrees, then type up a form and both of you sign it and leave it at that.
Or, you can choose not to call and wait until she calls you. I doubt she will report it to insurance. It is such a minor minor incident that really, it is not worth anybody's time to make a big deal out of it. But waiting sucks and it will leave you hanging and worrying what is going to happen. So your best move is to call and be nice to her. Show caring and passion. Afterall, you were at fault, right?

All taken care of, thank you all for the support. I wrote her a cheque as Bruce Fee suggested and commented it was for an accident settlement which occured the date of "" and indicated to her by cashing the cheque it would close this matter.

about $500 and change...she provided a receipt of the repairs done so it was all good, i didn't have any objections...at least she didn't scam me and ignored the repairs...I appreciated that more than anything.

meh, the last time I got rear-ended in my old ride.... the other guy did sorta steered away at the last sec, so only hit my left corner bumper... with the clips borken, and a not-very-obvious dent on the backdoor (it's a suv). And once one of those flimpsy clips broke, the whole thing need to be replaced. I quoted around in 5 bodyshops.... LOWEST gave me $1400.... highest is $2900!!!!!!! Amazing how much car plastic cost... and the labour cost is out of this world...
