It was raining out and I was going the speed limit and the light turned yellow on me just as I passed. The cars were slowing down infront of me to get onto the highway ( on ramp is just after the lights) so I had to slow down before I cleared the intersection and all I saw was a big flash that lit up the whole intersection in my rear view mirror.

What happens next?

they will review the picture and if deemed out of your control and so on nothing will happen. but if deemed you should drove according to the conditions you will get a ticket with pic car and plates in the mail..... think of it as a HUG parking ticket cause it dont affect you, just the plates.

The registered owner of the licence plates will get the ticket. There are no points and its close to $200 here in Hamilton, but that might also depend on the city you got the ticket in. As with any other ticket, Im sure you could fight it.

It is nearly impossible to win a red light camera ticket. They only send you a ticket after reviewing it and taking two pictures of you crossing the red light with a clear shot of your license plate. The owner of the plates will get the ticket, regardless of who is driving. Better off just paying the fine and getting on with your life.

i got red light camera ticket like 3 years ago, it was $190, i paid around $120 to the ticket fighter, and it's gone, no point, no record.....

they also told me it's even more easier to win compare u get caught by the cops....anyone can comfirm this?

Even if you straight up plead guilty, red light camera convictions do not result in demerit points, note on your driving record, or insurance increases anyways.

As for being easier to win, most JPs take the automated cameras as being reliable event recorders right up on par with radar. It's not that easy to fight a red light camera ticket.

I think red light camera's would cause more accidents than prevent. I hate it when people slam their brakes on an amber light because they know that intersection has a red light camera, and I almost end up rear ending them. Since on any other intersection they would have just went through.

It's just another stupid money grab for the gov't.

Yeah, in some places thay have actually raised the crash rates of camera-controlled intersections.

The difference is in the nature of crashes. Fewer serious T-bone crashes versus the same or slightly higher numbers of comparatively minor rear-end collisions.

T-bone crashes often result in serious injury or death because cars simply do not have enough crush space to offer significant high-speed side-impact crash protection.

Rear-end collisions at camera-controlled intersections usually result in little more than bruised wallets. Besides, those rear-end collisions are less the fault of the camera and more the fault of a driver following too close and not paying adequate attention anyways.

Given the available choices, for overall safety I'd take the red light camera any day.

Besides, don't you know? If you can stop safely, you're supposed to treat the amber as a red anyways. More particularly, the car behind you should certainly treat that amber as a red and prepare to stop anyways, and not assume that they can cruise through the amber right behind you.

The amber light to me means to gun it and make it before it turns red. I know where my point of no return is, that's the difference.
