I think its 180 or 190, a friend of mine got a ticket for this.
I beleive they take the picture and it gets analyzed and then they either send you a ticket or they dont based on what they find in the picutre.

k let me clarify some things for people.

red light camera's take two pictures.
this determines if the vehicle passed the line and continued to travel after the light was red.

just because it flashes doesnt mean it actually means you got booked. sometimes it flashes but realizes you stopped and it doesnt process a ticket.

red light camera tickets do not affect your driving record in any way. it gets sent to the person who owns the vehicle.

it is very easy to win a red light camera ticket.

the camera does not flash immediately after it turns red. you have a couple of seconds standby time. after this period if your vehicle passes the line yes it will flash.

I think I have officially escaped the ticket on this one. The incident happened on July 9th, so it's coming up 3 months, and I haven't received anything.

Whewwwwww!!! Lucky.

Cheers

I just got one of these in the mail today. My car is registered in my wife's name, so she is freaking-out that "they are going to come after me", blah, blah. She is worried that it will effect our insurance policy and driving record.

Can these be fought and is it worth it to?
Will it effect our insurance if there is no points involved?

Marker and others, any ideas?

Just luck that I escaped, so I can't offer anything constructive in terms of dealing with it. I do think it would be a good idea to talk to the guys at "points" or "xpolice" to see if you stand a chance. I think the fine is something like $260 and there are points involved. Maybe you can get the fine reduced, and no points if you make the right arguments? ... I didn't think I could stop safely? ... the guy behind me was tailgating me, so I couldn't slam on my brakes? ... Good luck.

I've been doing some reading and apparently a ticket of this type isn't part of the HTA like a ticket issued by a Cop is. It goes against the car, but the owner is responsible for paying for it. No demerit points either.

I'm not going to pay some lawyer to try to fight it for me, but I'm sure if I plead guilty with an explanation, I can get it reduced.

I remember the day too. It was on Upper James, just north of Fennell. The road was wet, so I just coasted through the light. According to the ticket, it was red for 0.9 seconds.

CRAP !!! .... sounds like the one at Brantdale ... it's a mean one .... if you notice, the walk / don't walk sign NEVER changes, so you don't get any indication whatsoever that the light is going stale .... also, go back to the intersection with a stop watch and time how long it is yellow ... I think there is a standard of something like 5 seconds for traffic lights, so you have enough time to react. If I'm not mistaken this one is brutally short, and shorter than the "standard" in the City. The HSR drivers complain about it all the time. Basically, if you see it turn yellow, you're DONE, because nobody can stop in time before it turns read. There have been lots of complaints about this particular intersection, so maybe you stand a chance in getting the ticket reduced.

No points, no effect on driving record and no insurance hit at the current time. Just hand over your money.

Like anything else, they can be fought, but the photo evidence is hard to beat unless you own a car and the photo shows a truck.

No points apply to tickets issued by red light cameras.

Thank you. So eventhough the ticket is in my wife's name, can I go to the Ontario Court of Justice and say it was me and give them my excuse?

Well, your wife would be the person formally requesting trial given that she is the registered owner, but you can certainly act as her agent. There is no reason why you can't appear in court to answer the charge on her behalf.

Red-light cameras have grown to be progressively prevalent since their release in the early 1990s, of which these cameras are made to take a picture of automobiles crossing an intersection on a red light. But recently, there are questions raised as, Do red-light cameras put profit over public safety? Critics say that the cams intrude on privacy and put public security behind profits. Fans argue that they keep drivers accountable and are cost-effective.
