Angry read this police BS!!!!

i've had my cat back system for 1 and half years now

recently i have to pick up a friend that lives across from police station.

I've had a accident recently and there the muffler piping is bent a

little which created a little bit more noise but not over 80 decible

i told him i'm waiting for insurance to approve to fix it (which is true)

he still gave me a ticket, then a week later he pulled me over again. I told him i'm still waiting, maybe it will take a week before i can get it fixed and the muffler ain't that loud.

i told him he could call my insurance company if he wanted to.

he told me he doesn't know anything about muffler and said that anything non stock is improper muffler????

so r u saying i have to stick with the ***king chopstick sized piping?

he gave me the second ticket saying that it makes sure i fix it
i was like wtf, u r wasting tax payers money by making me go to court to prove the same thing as the first ticket.

so i donno wtf is going on. i thought cops job is to provide safety and arrest criminals.

wtf is this **** giving 2 or more tickets on the same problem

i haven't even got the first court date yet? how the *** do they know that my muffler is illegal or not? what if i go to court and they said it's okay then wouldn't it make the second and third ..... ticket useless?

then i have to go to court for those and say the same thing

who the hell could i complain to? this is so much bull**** and i think these good for nothing police will keep doing this to everyone until get get some sort of results?

i just dont get it, we r helping the country by buying car parts and modifying. The tax and **** we paid is working against us

There are no actual DB sound limits in the HTA for exhaust noise, its basically up to the officer in terms of what he or she deems to be "excessive" noise.

you really have no legs to stand on here .. if it wasn't working properly and "excessive in the cops ears.." then he gives you a "fix it" ticket (which is one that mostlikely would be thrown out of court if you fix it) and a week later you still haven't fixed it ... what's he to do ? let you go? then what happens if after a month it's still not fixed?

seriously your insurance isn't going to do anything and if you get any money out of them it won't be till you've gone through months and months of fighting with them... get it fixed now re-coup costs later

Stop waiting, start fixing. Keep proof of repair and work and ask for money later.

Lets see.......you have a 2001 coupe right? That means a stock muffler would be a HONDA one right?

Ask the cop.............. if this is true, then why doesn't he bust EVERY SINGLE CAR THAT HAS HAD WORK DONE BY SPEEDY, CRAPPY TIRE, MIDAS...ect...ect...ect....

NONE of these shops use "stock" parts, so he should be giving a ticket to his own car.......as I'm sure he has a "replacement stock" muffler from one of these NON factory shops.

If I was in your shoes, I'd keep a Crappy Tire flyer in your car, then the next time this guy pulls you over agian, remind him of what he said about the "stock" muffler thing, and then show him the flyer.

See what he says then.

stock is obviously refering to OEM replacement...and this tactic will surely result in another ticket

Like I said, it that is true, then every single car that doesn't go back to the dealer to get a repacement (which is a **** load of cars), should be getting tickets too, according to what this cop said.

a video camera in the back seat recording your next visit from this cop, would be an interesting video clip for CityTV to get a hold of.

oem replacement doesnt mean dealer item...it means manufactured to oem specifications for noise, performance and life

OEM

Original Equpment Manufacturer

not RCOE

Replacement Copy of Original Equpment (made that up)

Even the insurace companies define what "STOCK" is, and what "REPLACEMENT" is.

They are 2 different things.

And if the stuff you say WERE true, then what's not to say his muffler DIDN'T meet OEM specs?

Hmmmm?

The HTA is "grey" in this area.

If I remeber correctly.....as long as you have a functioning/working muffler on the car, then I don't see WHY they would give you a ticket.............unless it sounded like a fart can.

I would just take both tickets to court.

dude, can u read...I said OEM REPLACEMENT!!! which is a 3rd party made product that meets or exceeds manufacturers specs...I worked at an autoparts distributor for 3 years and we sell OEM REPLACEMENT parts to shops and dealerships

aftermarket performance stuff falls under a different category and you cant use the CARB legal stuff in Canada as CARB is a U.S. governing body and doesnt include Canada...thats why ist 50 state legal, not North America legal

and its quite obvious if his muffler was louder than the muffler the car came with it did not meet OEM specs as it should have been just as quiet or quieter (exceed oem specs)...therefore Walker quietflow, Bosal etc etc branded mufflers that are OEM replacement are all suitable for use and are not going to be subject to cops saying they are too loud and if they do, you then have grounds to fight a ticket

take 5.0 mustangs for example, the stock from factory exhaust is much louder than a civic so if you were ticketed for loud exhuast or whatever you would have grounds to fight it as the exhaust is stock/oem replacement and thats as loud as its supposed to be no matter what

thats that!

Ok, i don't usually brouse this forum but I'll tell you what to do. First if you are honestly saying that ins. knew bout this exaust prob., then call them up and get them to send you a transcript of when you called the damage in. This should prove that you did notify your ins. carrier. Also take the paperwork showing when you fixed it, this will show it was damaged.
Now when you go to court there's 2 way's you can get it thrown out.
1) ask the nice officer why the muffler is "improper" as stated in the ticket and what make's it improper. Then you can argue that it is an aftermarket replacement product as you cannot afford the expensive factory parts. He will also carry on, on how loud it is. Well if that's his arguement he just LOST, he should of given you a ticket for excessive noise not improper muffler as it is the proper aftermarket replacement product for your car! Your off on a technicallity.
2) He has given you 2 ticket's of the same within a couple day's, even though you told him you predicament. This could be considered harasment.

I would just get it fixed to get it over with and avoid all the hassles in the first place. Too much trouble having to claim insurance and deal with police harrassing you.

I had a replacement OEM muffler (by your definition CyniKal), and I STILL got a ticket once on my old car. It WAS a direct replacement for my car. It was even "dealer waranty approved".

I took it to court, and I brought the bill of sale with me. The cop's aurgument was that I had an improper muffler on the car.....I said I didn't......I then handed the bill from crappy tire, proving the cop wrong. (he didn't know what to say)

The ticket was thrown out.
