Peel/Toronto Police

Sup everyone...

I will cut to the chase...

Ive been hearing though the grapevine that there is a team of 8 undercover cops hired specifically to investigate, swapped or converted engines in cars, not just imports but domestics to...From what ive been hearing is that they have been investigating extesively into stolen engines/cars, mostly the B18's (all types) and all H22's (all types)...Ive heard that the undercovers will request you pop the hood of your ride and they check to see what motor is under the hood...and guess what, if you have a non-stock engine they may request to have the vin numbers given...ive heard they will do extensive searches under the hood for matching and non-matching vin numbers...

well i guess thats if for my post, i just thought i would relay the heads up ...careful everyone...

Mikey

if yer running a legit swap, why would you have anything to worry about??

actually, maybe it'll do some good and all our friends will stop getting their cars ripped off..way too much of that been happening imo..

Just basically saying to be careful if you do have a swapped engine...make sure its legit or be careful with the story you use and be careful and aware if you ever do think of swapping an engine...

can't you refuse not to have your hood open?? What are your right when dealing with this matter. If your swap is stolen will they take your whole car or just the motor.

Why would you refuse? This just makes the situation worse.

It's like refusing a breath-test... you may as well just say you have something to hide. Then, they have prob cause and just impound your car.

If this is the new initiative for Police, good for them. I persoanlly think there are bigger issues out there that require more attention. Dedicating 8 officers to patrol little honda motors seems silly to me. At then end of the day it is just theft and face-less, non-violent crime that ultimately get's taken care of by insurance companies.

The pnly thing you can refuse to open (without a warrant) is your trunk. It is considred your private property and they cannot enter by force unless they are 120% sure that they have "reasonable and probable grounds" that there is something in teh trunk that would convict you of an idictable offence.

hmm
really, what if your mechanic installed and obtained the swap for you. can they still charge you?
like how can you varify this?
for those who get people to do it for them?
