if the damage is below a certain amount then you dont have to report it. besides, it's on private property.

but DONT JUST TAKE OFF!! leave a note or something and settle with the owner of the other car privately

Private property makes no difference, it just means the police have to notify the property owner before they charge you... IF your caught after the fact, you can be charged with leaving the scene of an accident, which is 6 points and a fine ... if your not caught, then obviously your ok ... If you are willing to pay for the persons damage, then obviously you are going to admit to hitting the car, and the person could call the cops and have you charged, but its unlikely they will if your paying ...

I think he got caught... else he wouldn't be asking. Ppl who take off don't suddenly get an itch in their pocket from guilt.

Private Property accidents don't mean **** all on insurance. I had a side swiping incident with a van in the GO station parking lot. We made a claim (that somehow ended up on my sister's name) but she left it like that because it didn't raise any rates at all.

private porpety accidents are always 50/50 ...

however there might be some exceptions...

anyways hit and runs **** me off simply because I was the victim of one .. you all remember the white civic with the black fender that black fender was because of a hit and run...

I just finished an afternoon of rantting at a co-worker who came into work claiming he had just done a hit and run to a parked car ... grrr those people **** me off...

Some exceptions? Lots of exceptions, which goes back to making your original assertion quite faulty. The following comes from government regulation regarding fault determination rules...

Rules for Automobiles in Parking Lots

16. (1) This section applies with respect to incidents in parking lots.
(2) The degree of fault of a driver involved in an incident on a thoroughfare shall be determined in accordance with this Regulation as if the thoroughfare were a road.
(3) If automobile "A" is leaving a feeder lane and fails to yield the right of way to automobile "B" on a thoroughfare, the driver of automobile "A" is 100 per cent at fault and the driver of automobile "B" is not at fault for the incident.
(4) If automobile "A" is leaving a parking space and fails to yield the right of way to automobile "B" on a feeder lane or a thoroughfare, the driver of automobile "A" is 100 per cent at fault and the driver of automobile "B" is not at fault for the incident.
(5) In this section,
"feeder lane" means a road in a parking lot other than a thoroughfare;
"thoroughfare" means a main road for passage into, through or out of a parking lot.
O. Reg. 276/90, s. 16.

Also, 100% fault goes to a car that hits another car that was properly parked in a designated parking space.
