Angry No Front License Plate: WTF!!!!!

OK, here's a good one for all the law gurus out there (I'm countin' on you PULOVR )....

Today just before 7 PM (when I knock off work), I screech to a stop outside VRD Auto Sports (hey, I have to do my part by working for these guys to help establish the aftermarket world in Hamilton ). Michelle (my girlfriend - not Electron Blue) was hanging around outside the store, so I left my engine running and told her to watch my car as I dashed inside with some urgent paper work.

Well, as I was talking to my boss, the store manage points outside and says "what the ****, what are those cops doing with your girlfriend?" These two cops were harassing Michelle because they claimed my license plate should be mounted on my front bumper.

Another coworker told me to hide inside so that they wouldn't get me in ****, but then they came into the store. Not wanting to bring negative publicity on my boss I went outside to face the music

Anyway, the police said that my license plate shouldn't be in my windshield and should be mounted on "the furthest most point on the front" of my car (?) I was like "huh?" I didn't argue, I was just like "whatever", gave them my license and registration, and went back inside to work.

Lucky for me I left my engine running, my day-time runners are yellow, but my ******* head lights and high beams are blue. In Hamilton the cops ******* tow you even if your light bulbs are blue while the car's off (I guess it's tough **** for anyone with a new Acura or Audi). The cops tried to trick me into revealing my HID's and told me to turn off my engine. I said no, told Michelle to watch the car, left my engine running (and the mud yellow daytime runners on and went back inside).

Now PULOVR, here's where I need your help: WHAT THE **** IS THE LAW FOR FRONT LICENSE PLATES? I have a 72 hour warning where I must show up at the police station to have my warning counter signed by a cop who will verify that my license plate is now attached to my bumper.

I haven't even had my new body kit on for a week (and boyz and gurlz let me tell you, she looks HOT ) so I really don't want to spoil it by mounting the license plate on the bumper - and the cops said I couldn't mount it on the grill.

Anyway, my beautiful little baby only has 72 hours to live   Somebody please help me! The kit looks so sexy and I JUST got it put on

cops were right. having your plate inside the windshield is illegal. you pretty much have no choice but to mount the plate on the front of the vehicle. cant be behind the grill either.

btw the blue light bulb is total bs. as long as the light emitted is white it should be fine.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking I dunno, I think I'll just mount the plate to get the warning exempted and then take it off again - or I might get a temprary little plastic baggy thing that the dealerships use so that I can remove my front license plate easily whenever my car is parked in the lot infront of where I work.

But it was such a beautiful bumper

"Front and Rear Plates - Must be attached to the bumpers as prescribed by the Ministry of Transportation."

And yet another "friend" said, As long as the plate can be CLEARLY SEEN from the front off the car, it's ok.

7 (b) i. Is what's confusing....
What's the prescibed manner???

7. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless,

(a) there exists a currently validated permit for the vehicle;

(b) there are displayed on the vehicle, in the prescribed manner,

(i) number plates issued in accordance with the regulations showing the number of the permit issued for the vehicle, or

(ii) number plates described in subsection (7.2) if the vehicle is an historic vehicle and the Ministry has issued a currently validated permit for it; and

(c) evidence of the current validation of the permit is affixed, in the prescribed manner, to,

(i) one of the number plates mentioned in subclause (b) (i) displayed on the vehicle, or

(ii) to a mini-plate attached to the number plate exposed on the rear of the vehicle, if number plates described in subsection (7.2) are displayed on the vehicle.

The only thing that I can sugest, is make a holder that is attached to the grill, but curves up in front of the bumper.(but does not touch the bumper.) Do you know what I mean?

Honestly, I would drill the plate to your bumper... I noticed that you had a little space left for that there, when I was checking it out at Taco Bell the other night.

Even though you might be able to get away with this now somehow, but you're going to be pulled over by the police again and again. With your new bodykit, it isn't exactly what you call lowkey... so just to prevent you from getting harassed again, I would do it the proper way. The last thing you really need to getting pulled over, when you are running late to work... or on a date or whatever... it's just not worth the hassle.

As far as your lights go....

Technically, if the lights are "white" then it SHOULD be okay. Unforunately, if the bulbs are not D.O.T. approved, it doesn't matter what colour it is, it is illegal. And those taiwanese companies that make Eurolite bulbs are too cheap to get any D.O.T. certification. Even if you have a real H.I.D. kit, it is still illegal, since no kit out there has D.O.T. approval, due to lack of a built in auto-leveling system that prevents glare to the on-coming traffic.

Those Audis and Bimmers are okay, since their headlamps have autoleveling system, and is fully D.O.T. approved (although someitimes I question 97-00 BMW 540i's.. they have too way much glare).

My advice--go with D.O.T. approved bulbs, like the Sylvannia CoolBlue (Canadian Tire) or PIAA SuperWhites. That way, you can keep the box in the car, and if they harass you, you can show them the box. It clearly says D.O.T. approved on there. Of course, you could keep the bulbs you have now, go buy a set of CoolBlues, store the bulbs elsewhere and just keep the box in the car........ and tell them the box belongs to the bulbs that are on right now. It's risky, but I high doubt they will ask you to bull the bulbs out of your car so they can really check it.

The pigs told you to turn off the car, because you can see the blue dye reflecting off your reflectors in your headlamps. You can avoid this if you get PIAA SuperPlasma bulbs (has the 5000K colour you want) you could get away clean, because they don't reflect blue in the reflectors at all. Then you can lie to him that they are SuperWhites, and he can go on the website and check it out himself

Oh yeah....... you need to lower your headlight aiming too! I think one of these days you will get busted for that, when a cop passes you... 1st he'll be blinded.. then as you pass him, he'll notice your spoiler and atlezza, and body kit. He'll pull you over real fast... I can help you with the headlamps this weekend if you'd like.

But 1st things first... get your plate on bud... keep it normal & legal so cops can't say **** to you.

Damn, I guess I should ditch the barely legal Asian bikini team out of the back seat and the 10 kilos of crack in the trunk then too **** - looks like I'll be making a trip to canadian tire for some super whites and bolts - how long does the head light thing you were talking about take James?

took me about 5 minutes..... just find a wall, bring some tape and you'll be good to go....

here... use this as a guide

Park your car facing a wall so that the headlights are 25 feet from it. Now measure the distance between the centers of the headlamps and cut it in half. That's the cars centerline. Run that line to the wall and up the wall at least 5 feet.

Now, using the centerline on the wall, measure out the headlamps centers and make two vertical lines. With that done, measure from the floor to the headlamps centers and transfer that measurement to the wall.

Now you should have three vertical lines, the cars centerline and the centers of the headlamps. And one horizontal line for the headlamps centers.

For the proper aiming of low beam headlamps, the high intensity portion on the light should be 2 inches below the horizontal headlamps center lines. The side to side should be 2 inches to the right of the vertical headlamps center lines.

Headlamp adjustment takes about 5-10 minutes. Just need a screw driver, level ground and a wall. Then we'll do a test run, where one person stands outside, while the other person goes around the block. And any neccessary adjustments after if needed...

You'll notice Sylvannia CoolBlues are really really nice bulbs, performance wise. But colour wise, they suck ***. Hardly any different from yellowish stock... but... you'll never get pulled over. I think Sylvannia has a NEW bulb out, called the SilverStar, with even more perfomrnace (legit more performance, not BS) and ricey colour (4100K). Might wanna hold up for that.. its street legal too, BTW.

Now, about that cookie...

I'll just throw in another plug for the Sylvannia Cool Blues. If you are looking for something with a white light (not blue) they are good. I had a set of PIAA superwhites on my old car, and the light colour is just about the same for a fraction of the cost. They are cheap, just a little bit more than stock ($15 a bulb) at Crappy Tire.
