new law OEM only

i was talking to a tow truck driver last night. he said there is a new law that is almost passed that allows an officer to pull your plates and have it impounded if there are ANY modifications done to it.

Not sure how correct this guy was but apparantly the cop can tow you with even just a cold air intake.

That can't be right, it makes no sense. The vehicle with a CAI is safe. I have seen many cars with OEM parts that are unsafe.

If this is where this country is going, I'm going to get out sooner rather than later. Sheesh, first they take half the money I earn, and then tell me what I can and can't spend the other half on.

Is there not CAI that look like OEM? In that case, how would they know? Not every cop knows what OEM is or not.

And where do you draw the line, if I have an OEM intake, but an aftermarket filter, does that give them the right to pull me over?

the tow truck driver said even just a body kit would be illegal unless it was OEM.

it's just to give more power to the criminals so that they can pull you over whenever they want.

this is going to turn into a lot of fines indeed. fines generate cash. arresting real criminals and giving them jail time costs money.

what do you think the blue corporation is going to focus on?

I don't think that this law would ever be passed, that's alot of money out of the economy... and then only the car manufacturers would get money.... TONS of stuff is not OEM but oem replacement, but cheaper and not a performance mod either... how are they going to distinguish..?

i'm just repeating what the tow driver was saying.

then again, he also told my friend he had a really nice bumper and then started swearing out loud about how much he hated lowered cars when trying to jack it up.

i dont even know what all the fuss is about less than five people die a year because of street racing, and the most recnet of those deaths was like two kids in escalads rippimg down their street, i bet more people die from spotaneous combustion then from street racing and we all have to pay for it because we have wheels or some other mod, **** that

we have to pay for it because the car parts market / lobbysists have not been bribing enough government officials.

Those two sites quoted by 1slo, are contradictory...one says they are cracking down on cars modified for speed (then you look at the mods listed in the "Project Erase" and you see zero reference to performance modifications) LOL

What a waste of tax dollars.

Traffic act says

You have to have the proper emissions lines (vaccum ect) No breathers on the valve covers are allowed ect "No hollywood aftermarket emissions tampering " you could say

You arent allowed to mod you emissions lines even if the car wuill still pass e test
