Need Some Major Help(Insurance)

Hey, you guys seem to me pretty familiar with civics. Here is my problem. Im in the process of buying a 1993 Civic Si (dream car) all the quotes i got for the car were extremly high because its under my name and i am only 18. Now my parents have two cars and both cars are under my dads name as a primary driver, so does this mean my mom could go under a primary driver and me under casual and lower my rates?

If anyone knows how to or a way to lower insurance please tell me i really need to buy this car and mod the hell out of it.

Thanks,

Welcome to TCC. :bling:

Your exactly right, putting your mom as primary would lower your rates by quite a bit...of course assuming she has a good driving record and few or little claims over the last 5 years or so. I would also suggest you enroll yourself in an Ontario Approved Driver's Education course. It's about $400 if I remeber correctly, and should you pass your certification will lower your insurance rates even more... I save about $500 bucks a year thanks to this certificate.

Good luck with the new car.

thanks for the welcoming,
ive taken drivers ed and got my certf.

so i can do that with no problem my parents are having a hard time beliving me therefore they won't talk to the insurance company. But i will drill it into their heads this week. Thanks for the quick reply hopefully i will be here next week with a civic

well after talking to someone about this you might have a problem getting your parents to be the primary driver on all three cars. unfortunately, you might have to be primary driver on at least one of them. you better talk to your insurance company about this. dont just assume that your family can have 3 cars and your parents can be the primary drivers on all 3.

I have a certificate and it doesn't do ****, unless u r occasional driver, or are over 25. Basically if ur under 25 and primary, u get raped and there's no way around it. Your parents can't be primary on all 3 cars. they have this stupid rule that states if have the same number of cars as drivers, then their is a primary for each car. Only way I can think of you getting around this is because it goes by drivers per household. Try and say that u don't live in the same household, u live with relatives, or on ur own or something. U'll have to show proof of this, and maybe it might work. U can say, oh my mom lets me borrow this car once in a while or on weekends when i come home from university or something.

well since both cars are under my dads name couldn't my mom take my car to a different insurance company and insure it with them..

I'm under 25, I drive every day with full coverage and i'm telling you, the certificate does do "****". :p I think you are dealing with the wrong insurance agent.

That's what my parents did with my brother's car when he was a teenager. That was almost 10 years ago, and things ahve changed. Pretty much all insurance companies know about all the scams out there, so ur not gonna have much luck doing it. I wanted to do it that way, but so far no luck. My brother just turned 25 in january so he just insured his new car in his name. He bought a 2002 Sentra SER Spec V.

Try the method I mentioned.

And I have called around tons of comapanies, and yes you do save, but the amount is so miniscuel in comparison to the rest of the policy.

i guess you could try that, it may or may not work. i know for sure if you stick with the same insurance company then they will want u to be one of the primary drivers.

otherwise you could try what Promoking told ya. if that doesnt work then just put yourself down as primary driver on the car that will cost the least.

This won't happen..

1 car..

1 driver..

1 primary..

This is a repeat of a old thread...

CHEAP INSURANCE

Okay boyz, I know I am a woman and we get breaks on insurance, but....when I was 18 I was primary on my own car and full coverage (with $300.00 deductibles, and only my G2) I was paying 155 a month. If you have a perfect record you can be primary and get cheap insurance my broker is John Duffy Insurance and she gets me good rates (her name is Nancy, she is an old neighbour of mine) If you want the info PM me, and if you have any more questions about insurance PM me too! Kari:)
