1) Shop around, get different quotes
2) Claim "casual driver" status
3) Sell the 98, get something a little bit older
4) Wait till you are older.

Never understood how insurance got so high all of a sudden.. I was 19 bombing around in a camaro and my insurance was only $2200.00 per year.

Regards,
OK

Well, my agent told me because all "Honda" cars, especially "Civic" are relatively higher risk vehicles.

Besides that, my agent also told me the following:
1.Honda cars are very popular to car thefts,
2.Cost more $$$ to fix,
3.Some Civic owners are not behaving themselves, which cost insurance company so much $$$ to paid for the loss.

regards,
Mugen C

*sighs* and I thought I was paying to much.. Oh wait, who am I kidding.. $68.50/month isn't a whole lot.

That is FULL converage and they know about the modifications to the car too.

Yes, it IS 25 before you will get the best rates, after that its whenever the tickets expire off your insurance record (3 years from date of issue).

Regards,
OK

If you know someone close out of province you can put it under there name, i just turned 20 and i'm paying 600$ a year for full coverage on a 97 si, and like it was stated above state that you drive as a casual.

WTF

WTF...$600, I dont know ANYONE out of this province Why does that work like that though? Isnt that the same as being a secondary driver under someone elses policy IN this province? Is there a way I can 'scam' the insurance company legally without knowing anyone out of ontario?

Insurance

Okay guys I'm not advertising for these people, I have just had really good experience with them calle the first one if you don't have a clear record otherwise the second may be better here goes!
two brokers: Nancy Nasu @ John Duffy Insurance 905-479-2013 (I am with them now since I got my insurance dropped because I no longer had a perfect record) or the first people (charged me $156/mo when I had my G2 perfect record and a 91 isuzu impulse) Stroud Meadwell Mowat and Fennel (Broker company name) (905) 668-3579. And let me know how you make out!

If anyone else is looking send them here I've pmed this info twice and this is just easier!

what you should do is have the ownership transfered to your dad. so, he'll be the owner of the car. since you are 19 you are considered an adult. you should change your mailing/living address to a friends house or a relative. get your dad to buy insurance for the car for himself without a 2nd driver or occational driver. the insurance covers anyone that your dad gives permission to drive who doesn't reside in the same household. so, since you don't "technically" live at home, your dad gives you permission to drive the car and you don't have to pay the increased premium. the only drawback is the address change and you will lose your insurance experience.

just to make you feel a little better the price for me as a second driver is just a little over $8000 yes thats 3 zeros.
and im driving a 4 dr civic unlike your coupe im currently looking for a new solution ...... found some good ideas in here ... thanks guys

BTW ..... do insurance companies tend to trace where you had previous insurance ? ... like if i had a minor fender bender and didn't tell them when asking for my quote will they look into it ?

they always check. if you've made a claim within the past 6 years, it's on record. so there's no point in not telling them. obviously if you've fixed the car yourself you wouldn't tell the insurance company. speeding tickets go away in 3 years. accident claims go away in 6 years.
