Pat, Shop around for insurance....trust me its a pain in the *** but when my insurance decided not to renew I had to look elsewhere. Talk to a broker and see what they can do.

I wouldn't say its a scam....they have to justify their premium to the Ontario government so they can't just charge whatever they feel like ...Some companies feel confident they can charge less than others, and some have more discounts, thats why there is a difference in price ....

Let us calculate... $600/mth vs $250/mth... that's a $350 difference. at $350/mth, and say you paid $3500 to fix the car yourself... in 10 months you would have paid off your loan to fix the car... this way you are fuct for I forget, 3 or 5 years... 3 years at $350/month is $12,600... ouch!

Ya, get someone else to insure you... don't make any more claims. I can't wait till I'm 25 and can get cheap insurance... AND A MOTORCYCLE

Exactly my veiw on insurance, just an over priced Lone when you crack up your car, cheaper to get a bank loan when you do crack it up...but the million doller liability is a nececity incase you kill somone by accident..

well there you go thats the reason why ... I had an accident 3 years ago and I never went through insurance but because of that accident I have to say yes I had 1 at fault accident and because of that I'm paying 370 a month (last year was 525) and it hurts ...but trust me I ain't ever going to be at fault again I've learned my lesson....

they raised the rates because your now a high risk driver.

Pat

if you are in an accident byyourself..... you get a reckless driving ticket automaticly.... 6 demerit points.... that's why your insurance is so high

mine just about doubled in january... all cause of a transport truck rear ended me... i guess when your at a complete stop and a truck driver isn't paying attention that makes me a "high risk" driver too... join the club though

i know its brutal... i think i'm one of the few people that get more money from insurance then i pay out htough.... cause that rear ending thing... it wasn't that bad... but all hte paint on my quarters got scratched to they have to be re painted... basically i got my whole rear end painted... the total was like 3500 before tax.... then like maybe two months ago i got my deck and subs stolen... they were only worth maybe 400 tops... and i scored $1020 or so from insurance for that.... so technically even my doubled insurance is half what they have paid me this year.... cause for the 3 years before this one i have been paying like 800 a year... under my parents... and i got my front end painted from insurance like two years ago which was 1500 something.... so i think i'm pretty much breaking even with insurance...

i understand where you're coming from, but as i've said before i don't understand why WE, the customer have to eat their losses when it comes to investment mistakes..

when i lose money selling a home does anyone give me anything outta the deal?? nope..
if i lose money selling a car?? nope
playing the stock market?? again a resounding NOPE..

the government better figure out something real soon..
they insist you HAVE to have it, yet in the eyes of the general public they aren't regulating it at all..
there are a thousand stories out there from people seeing a 100% mark-up with no faults against them..

we're expected to eat their mistakes, yet when we have none we're expected to just roll with the punches..

I had a whole plan worked out for insurance reform, but it's so radical, it could never happen... like you pay a cetain amount / month up to a limit into like a group fund w/ the entire population. After you have, say $5K, you don't pay anymore... now, if you hit someone, your balance is reduced, and you start paying again... if it's more than $5K damage, you are "lent" money bellow prime and you pay that until you repay it, plus bring your balance up to $6K now.... and so on. The Bank of Canada has this massive account, and that's it... everyone pools from it, BofC makes whatever money with it through overnight lending to banks... so that covers admin costs... and that's the new insurance system. Now who wants to bring this private bill to parliament

Someone here must be studying poli-sci and acc-sci.

I see your point but your not paying for their investment mistakes.... Your basically paying into the companies fund to cover claims, not making money .... Especially auto insurance .... as I said before, companies do not make money on auto insurance so the premiums you are paying help pay for all the claims the insurance company pays out --- its called the law or large numbers ...
