my broker just told me...

I just bought insurance with ING HALIFAX
when i took the picture for the insurance company my car was stock.....
today i asked him if i had an after market exhaust and intake, would the insurance company still cover me in an accident.....and he said NO!
The broker told me that if i add anything that will increase my horsepower that the insurance will not cover me in case of an accident.......
is that true??!!!
HELP!

Yup - State Farm says the same thing...but they have a hard time enforcing it. I made State Farm buy my AEM - so that is covered

theoretically they could deny to pay for anything because they can argue your car is in a higher risk bracket with modifications. try shopping around for other insurance companies, some do exist that dont care about cars being modified.

actually my insurance company is the same, they wanted to double my premium when they found out i have intake/header (exhaust didnt matter to them). i got out of that though (dont ask how ) but i think i might be in trouble if my car gets in an accident. *knock on wood*

its right..insurance company will not cover you if you add those things. infact they can cancel you right now if they think it's a risk. if you dont tell them anything and you do get into an accident, they will not cover you for it.

If you tell them your plans and they take you monthly payments there bound by that contract and infact MUST cover you

but they can write off the car and not re-new

remember you signed a contract
I'm also with ING and they cover everything on my car

the problem is that if you tell them your plans they will either a) drop coverage or b) jack up your premiums

why don't you tell your insurance company and pay the extra $20/month they're gonna charge you it's better to pay a lil bit more now, and be fully covered, then to not tell them, and then have them deny your claim after you write off your car...
