its up to you whether or not you want your engine insured, but its not against the law to swap an engine and not tell insurance about it

but it is within the clauses in the insurance that modifications that might affect the original design of the car will void coverage, such as installing a heavier type of engine that will lower the level of the impact zones, change suspension dynamics and geometry, and affect handling and the behaviour of the car in a crash

why would that matter... they have to cover you that's why your paying them.. if you get in an accident they won't cover the engine repair or a brandnew one.... so it's up to you..

no they don't have to pay for anything... ERTW is completely correct on this. if you use Aftermarket parts insurance companies have been denying claims simply because a part different from stock doesn't perform the same way as a stock part and therefore they have no data on how the car should/will perform in a collision and can't validate it anywhere.

I went over this with a state farm agent who is a friend of mine. He said they have to cover the cost of the STOCK car alone, as that what you were paying insurance on. NO MODS WILL BE COVERED.

i called my insurance company and asked them about mods and stuff. they said they will cover a certain number of exterior mods. but wouldnt cover me at all if i change any "performance" parts. performance being exhaust, engine, suspension...etc.

if they found any "performance" parts on my car if i had an accident or anything, they will not cover the accident at all. dont know how they could do that, but ... they said thats what would happen.

you guys are missing the point... as Jason said, they can deny your coverage, you pay them 2-3k a year and then get into an accident and try to make a claim, they check out the car, see the mods and drop you right there, it's called change in material risk... without notification... but get this, if you try to notify them, they'll drop you right there too, don't try it, there are tons of people who have. If your car is modified, this is the risk you take.

Hell, we know a guy who got a call from his insurance company saying he was dropped because they saw his name on the internet in the results of a solo2 event.

whio cares, insurance are crooks, theyll always screw u over no matter what. We are paying higher insurance because we drive civics, a car that insurance companies assume we will mod. But yet if we mod it, then we either get dropped by the company, or if we get into an accident, we get screwed. Its lose lose situation But aw well, civics are cool, and worth it all
