License plate cover FINE!!!!
 

Hey i've heard that license plate covers were illegal and vice versa. But anyways i just got a ticket for having a plate cover, is there any possible way i can fight this BS ticket. It will cost me 110 and while i'm at it... i just got my car from the garage after a one month repair from some crazy bitch hitting me and i forgot my proof of ownership and insurance thing at home due to me taking it out.... is there not a 24 hour period where i have to prove that i'm insured.. cause i just got 3 tickets in one pull over. He also mentioned how i looked like a "speed racer" PLZ HELP!!!

I have been pulled over before for having plate covers, but was just told to take them off, never got a ticket.. but Im pretty sure there illegal.

How about the ownership and insurance thing... is there anyway i can get rid of that?

I always thought you could go within 24 hours with your insurance and ownership to prove that you have it.. but that might just be a warning thing.. I'm not to sure.. sounds like the cop just gave you tickets..

did he tell you, you could go and prove it and they'll be dropped?

illegal if its tinted or a different color. I have clear ones no probs ... but any other color is illegal becuz it impairs the license plate.

and yes 24 hrs to prove u have a license and insurance / ownership but u have to go and get the ticket dropped they still give u incase u dont prove once u prove it will be dropped

Thanks guys... man im just having a pissed off day... and i feel like the damn cop was low on his quota and needed to throw some tickets at me....

bahahahha prob jus go in a prove ur ownership/license/insurance if thats what the ticket was for they have no choice but to drop it

btw id fight the ticket and change ur plate covers to clear ones ... take it to court he prob wont show

even if he shows how will her prove they werent clear ones? thats ur best bet

and if they dont drop the insurance/ownership take that to court too

hmmm.. i personally asked a cop... and he said light tinted smoked covers are okay.. its the blue /yellow ones that are illegal..................

Why does every one just assume?? Covers of any type are illegal, well, at least in Ontario. It doesn't matter if its blue, yellow, smoked or clear. Read the HTA, and you will see that I am correct. Yes you can get a ticket for a clear cover. Does it really happen often?? Probably not.

I do have clear covers on my plates, and I've never been pulled over for them. They still are technically illegal though.

As for the 24 hour law to show proof of insurance. I'm pretty sure that use to be the law. I believe the you have to have show proof of insurance at any time its request now. I'm not 100% sure on this one, but I am 100% sure on the plate covers.

been using these license covers for almost 7 yrs...never been pulled over

btw i've used clear, blue, yellow, smoked, light blue...no one pulled me over and i live very close to 51 division too

clear ones are legal, have u read the HTA?

heh sux about the plate covers... insurance is 24hr but i was hit with a court date for no ownership. still yet to go... i wonder how that's gonna turn out since the car's been sold since then hah

Not really. C-T sells then, but that does not make them legal. I believe the HTA states that the plates must not be covered period. That means covers, dirt, rust, etc.

did everyone crawl under a rock and hide when ontario banned all and every licence plate cover? it was only a year ago. its illegal to have any type of cover. if you get pulled over you can be charged for it if the cop feels like it. just because you didnt get pulled over for it or havent been charged for it doesnt mean you wont and its legal.

that is new to me . i have blue covers and i been pulled over once for beating a red light (actually it was a yellow light) but the cop only gave me a warning and said nothing about the blue covers.

I had cops behind me so many times but they never pulled me over for that. Worst case scenario you can just tell them you bought them at canadian tire and you did not know they were illegal. You can still find them at canadian tire , i guess you can always bring that to cout and just tell them that you didn't know they were illegal.

Plus if you took your driving test more than a year ago there is not way for you to know they are illegal , even more if they still sell it at canadian tire with not warnings. I am sure you can fight that

OMG!! The covers are still illegal. Even the ones you can buy at Canadian Tire come with a warning to check your local laws before street use.

ignorance of the law is no excuse in canada. good try but sry. laws are made every day its your responsibility as a canadian to know about it. just because its sold doesnt mean its legal. knifes are sold at stores but can you carry one on you when your walking down the street? i dont think so. learn the rules of the game bro.

how can you compare knifes to license plate covers????.. there is a huge difference comparing both .

Another point is that the license plate cover is a relative new law and most of us are not aware of it. I am sure if you explain to a cop he would give you a break.

There is a huge difference between you buying a knife and carrying it with you than you putting a harmless license plate cover on your car
Also, It is common sense that you can not be carrying a knife than it is for you to put a license cover plate.

Just to add more , most of my friends have license cover plates and they never run into this kind of problem. So it can't be as bad as you carrying a knife PLOP!

The +50km/hr is also relatively a new law also.
