legality of donuts

Can you get a ticket for doin drifts and donuts in a parking lot ? private property hogh school parking lot? My firends were warned today and the principal said he would take it to the cops. He said something about wreckless driving. It was after school around 5:30, no cars in the student lot. He took down plates, but not our names or license #'s

Doe he have a case ?

The only "donuts" cops like are "dunked" in coffee...

Its not on his property to be doing donuts. School property is not a good place to do them either....

Uh you pretty much have the answer...

Principal - My school, my rules.

Principal's private property so if he/she wants to call the cops, you will get in trouble. Its not even your property too, if you goto Market Village to do it and the management calls the cops, screwed (but the management are such lazy ******, they dont even give tickets to those who park at the ends of the isle)

yeah, what everyone else said is right, he's in charge of the property so you can do what you want on private property but if the owner/operator (in this case principal) complains they can nail you for sure

Whose car is the car registered under? If it's under your dad and he's cool about it, when and if the cop's come he can deny, deny, deny. The guy didn't get id's so unless there's video footage you should be ok. Don't worry.

hmmm not sure about a school lot but I remember last sumemr my friend was leaving patches with his car in the parking lot right in front of the cop and he didn't do anything. The reason for this is because they can't give you a ticket on private property and parking lots so they can't do **** all. So im pretty sure they can't give you a ticket unless they told you to leave the premesis and you continued to stay there, then they can give you a ticket no question about it

Not quite true, they can issue you a ticket for careless/reckless driving anywhere, be it private property or not.

My friends were causing a disater right in front of one and he didn't do anything, I guess your right in a away but I don't understand why they didn't give him a ticket and then I talked to a cop one day and he said that they can't issue tickets on private property.
Fo example about 3 months ago I was in Tim Hortons parking lot chilling with a couple friends and a cop asked me who's car that blue one was and I said mine, so he wen't up to it and he started shuving his hand under the wheel well and he said if he ever saw me on the road he's going to book me b/c it as too low and also for the blue plate cover. He couldn't hand out the ticket to me b/c I was on private property.

school parking lots are board property therefore the person who is upkeeping that property (ie. principal or anyone working there under the board) has the right to call in the police to inform them of careless and reckless driving.

Ya, what everyone else said.
If it's private property, the people who own/manage the property can call the cops on you.

I was in the COSTCO parking lot near my work (at queensway and islington) well I have always known cops like to sit in the back of that parking lot and do whatever they do in there cars at the back of parking lots. well burger king is also at the back of the parking lot (it's actually off the queensway but it's really quick to go through the costco parking lot and just park in the lot at the back) well last thursday I was driving faster then I should have in the parking lot and turned a corner and almost hit a cop car well the cop was cool about it and said there was nothing he could charge me with since it was on private property and just asked that I slow down. I figure I didn't hit him and he wasn't handing me a ticket so the least I could do was give him enough respect and slow down.

my point is according to the cops they can't charge you for a traffic crime (in this case speeding as cop claims speed limit in a parking lot is 15 km) on private property without the management or owners of that property pressing charges.

gatherer (from now on I'm going slow in a parking lot)

So unless the principal called the cops right away, my friend couldn't have got a ticket. ?

Like I said, surveillence cameras are the best.

If hes caught on tape and the management wants to press charges, doesnt matter when.

Side note, MMHS has camera coverage on student + teacher parking lot.
