Left parking garage w/o paying

Went out with some friends and when we went into the parking garage there was an old faded sign that looked like it said $4 under 2 hour so we parked in the garage. Once we left the teller told us we had to pay like $16, apparently the sign was supposed to read ($4 under 1/2 hour) so my friend who was driving was pissed b/c no one had anymore money on them except to pay only the $4 that we thought we had to pay, so the driver got pissed off with the teller b/c she called him an idiot for not reading the sign right, so he cusses her out and just drives off. I don't agree with what he did (allthough it was pretty funny at the time) b/c it's not like it was a huge amount or anything but whats done is done.
Anyways, he's tripping out now b/c he thinks he can be charged like if u leave a gas station w/o paying. Anyone know if he can be charged or anything or would it be just a ticket if the teller managed to get his tags.

Your friend has a very small window in which to return and pay up. This needs to happen before the police show up at his door. It's not a simple parking ticket he's facing - it's criminal charges.

who knows how much the ticket will be.. plus him having to go threw the hassle of trying to fight it later on? forget that.. advise him to pay for what he owes and maybe complain to the parking place to fix their stupid sign..

Ahh don't be too worried its $16 Man. I had a mix up at the gas station where basically I ended up leaving without paying and not knowing it. Yes the Police showed up at my door, and didn't believe me that I didn't mean to steal the gas and they just told me to go back there and pay it "Because this is what we usually do in these situations" Is what she told me. In any case go back there ASAP and pay the money so you don't have to be worried about it.

yea...I dont see how it is a criminal offence...its only 16 bux and it was all verbal back and forth. But if I were him...and I had steamed off in anger Id go back the next day with some money and just let who ever is there know what happened.
If the same teller is there then I'd just make up **** like I was just having a bad day and tip her.

I dono about u but I dont like being mean, specially over something like this lol

The amount of money involved isn't relevant at all.

Go to your local Walmart and try stealling a pack of gum. That's worth only what, a buck? But if you get caught it's considered theft just the same as if you had tried to steal a set of tires. Same charge - theft.

if the signed showed... $4 under 2 hour, and you couldn't read it any better.. or the one was completely faded... then you don't have to pay

Marketing 101 :P

Poor management on their part for not maintaining the signage; thought, one would wonder where the hell on earth would you find parking for that cheap around town.

Your friend had the will to pay, and he understood the condition based on what was "written" and "shown" on the board, and you all saw the same thing. He complied to the condition and paid "$4 dollars for under 2 hours" therefore, I don't think what he did was wrong.
