Unhappy Just got a ticket

Was doing a 70 in a 50 zone.

The cop reduced it to 60 in a 50 but in a threatening voice stated that if I go to court he can bump it back up to 70. He then pointed that the "R" he put on the ticket means that it was already reduced.

Is this true?

I'll probably just pay the fine but the way he said "i'll bump it back up to 70 if you go to trial" really irked me.

Any thoughts?

I don't think he can bump it up but the R does tell the crown that it was already reduced..... he just doesn't want to go to court... you have every right to have your day in front of a judge....

please note that the fact I said:

I don't think he can bump it up
means that I personally in my understanding of the law don't think he can... it is not set in stone .... I could very well be wrong ...

he can't bump it back up....the set fine is set down on paper.....u have the benfit of the lesser fine..........

however it'z already been reduced.....and if u have no other resason to fight it..........just pay the ticket........if u were wrong, u were wrong.....no point in wasting the courts time with any bullshit excuses..........they will already show no mercy due to the fact it was reduced...and if u argue some bullshit case.....ur jsut gonna look like an idiot to the JP

Will this reduced ticket affect your insurance even though there's no point deducted?

Cuz I got a ticket too.. similar situation.. reduced ticket.. but the cop make a mistake on the ticket.. He wrote my birthday wrong, and the date of the ticket.. He put Year 2003 but it is supposed to be 2004. I think I can go to the court office and ask them to drop the ticket.

yes the date of the ticket can be argued because you can argue you weren't there at the time .... that is one of those critical errors....

Yes, I am planning to go there tommorrow morning and ask the court office to drop that ticket. I will simply tell them that even if I go to court I will still win. So why waste their and my time. I am sure they will drop my ticket because it is black and white on the paper stating Year 2003 infact should be 2004. Even though the ticket has been reduced.

Sorry to say, date is completely ammendable...

The only critical mistakes are if the wrong section of the HTA is quoted, or the officer did not sign the ticket...other than that everything is ammendable.

That's if the judge allows it to be amended.

Today I went to the court house, and the lady said the cops have updated the date back to 2004 and the lady there said I can 't get the ticket dropped. Although it's a 40 dollars ticket, but I have decided to fight it. The reason is because I don't want the ticket to ruin my insurance premium even though I never had a ticket before. I am sure my insurance company will look into that even though there's no point deducted. I remember the time the cop who issue me the ticket was threatened me to not to go to court.. but really I have nothing to lose to go to court since the ticket has been reduced. The worse come to worse is I have to pay 40 bucks.
