They are just protecting themselves for making profit in the market.
Look at myself, in the past 14yrs, I have perfect driving records, nothing but just 2 windshield and comp. claims. I was paying 57 bucks mthly for my Civic. In July of this year. They sent me a registered letter and tell me they're not going to renew my policy because my 4th Gen. is being too old.
What can you do? What so funny is. They dropped me first, but "encouraging" me to contact them and work something out for me...so I did, and Guess what? They offered something that is 3x more than what I used to pay. My whole car may worth less than 3000 bucks now and they wanted me to pay 3000bucks for insurance???! I said screw it...what the heck is going on in the insurance market now! :fustrated

Ok.. my '93 Civic is worth maybe $6000. They want me to pay $5500/year on my civic. Sure im 18, but thats 2 years clean driving, no tickets, no accidents, no claims. I cannot afford to get to school. Some weeks I cannot afford gas because of the ridiculous rates.

well maybe the noise being made over insurance will drive those companies out .. think about BC where auto insurance is government run and doesn't jump nearly as much as the public companies in ontario. the reason why is simple BC insurance never took and never will take risks in the stock market garenteed investments only
this topic was on CFRB 1010 today . where people working in the insurance industry (guests on the show) pointed out that it was in fact because of the huge pay out s of september 11th and the down turn in the stock market ... something like 20% of net capital disappeared in those events...

write yer MP's guys!!
let them know you're fed up with the system..
let them know that the gov't is requiring you to have coverage, yet is not ensuring you have a viable means of getting it at an affordable cost..
demand they step in and get things under control..
write the Sun, Star, wherever..get the stories out and told
