Insuranceman!!!!

Hey Insuranceman,

You are the only person I can think of that can answer this very urgent question!

Let us say I was involved in a collision in Virginia (USA), and I rear-ended someone. Police report was made, and insurance info was exchanged. I have no way to contact that person, and they have no way to contact me. I offer to pay for the damage outta pocket at the scene. I call my insurance co to give them a heads up, and they won't answer this simple question... if I pay outta pocket, and NO claim is made on my car, will my insurance go up soley based on the fact I was involved in a collision (regardless of the fact they didn't pay a dime). Will my insurance have to pay for the other party's car? Or is it like it is here - each company pays for their own covered car? Minor damage - scraped paint on the bumper. Basically nothing.... nonetheless, the police report is filed. Insurance co is RBC, I dunno what the other company is, nor do I feel it's relevant.

BTW, in case you are wondering, this isn't for me... I was home safe and sound when this took place. And my insurance is with a diff't company. I'm asking for a 3rd party that is to remain unnamed.

In most cases, yes your insurance will go up, and if you report it to your insurance company they will be obligated to pay for the third parties damages as you have to follow the rules of where the accident occurs. So yes your company will pay for your damage and the damage of the third party, and regardless of weather they pay for anyting or not, if they have a record of the claim, they may charge for it. I hope this helps. If not, let me know ...
