insurance and tickets

hey guys

im thinking about switching to td insurance but when i called for a quote they denied me because of my mufler tip

im guna get al that replaced but i got 2 tickets

one for a loud muffler tip and one for tinted windows

are these considered tickets that would affect my insurance because when they ask about tickets i dunno if i shud state these or not

I believe insurance should only be concerned with moving violations (speeding tickets, etc.).

When getting a quote for insurance, don't tell them about any mods to your car or they will not cover you or even give you a quote.

ya i was denied because i had a muffler tip??

i was worried that id be blacklisted if i didnt tell them my mods because i heard TD check your cars can anyone confirm/deny this

miss_jess 21-Jul-2010 01:32 PM

Insurance cares about all tickets, except parking tickets. So yes, muffler tickets can and probably will effect you.

bengali548 21-Jul-2010 01:33 PM

^ so i SHOULD tell them?

rick10 21-Jul-2010 01:43 PM

do yourself a favour and do not go with td

they are the most **** insurance company when it comes to mods... And i believe you have an engine swap to right (b20)?? ...

If you dont want to have a cancelation record on your file , go somewhere else..
I have td with my mazda 3 and those guys dont even want rims in my car PLOP

Technically if you don't, you could be cancelled for material misrepresentation... its pretty serious. However, I doubt highly TD has a program which allows them to 'blacklist' people. I could be wrong but yeah.

Yup to you if you want to tell them. I switched my insurance from State Farm to RBC, I told RBC nothing. I don't want them knowing my modifications. If it comes up in the future has to why I didn't tell them I will worry about it then.

You work at State Farm, don't you get some sort of employee discount? How much better is RBC if that is the case?

rick10 22-Jul-2010 11:29 AM

State farms is very expensive for young people... I ve only had 1 experiences with state farm and they both suck

FIRST

19 , G license , 1 accident , 1993 Jetta
Quote - 12 500 $ full coverage , 10 500 one way ( yearly quote)
I ended finding a different insurance for 4300 a year , average quote was 6500-8000 a year ( one way all of them)

I guess they do have decent rates for older people ( like 35 +) ... Most of the older people i know are with state farm becuase they get better rates.. But if you are under 25 ( or even 30) , then you ll probably want to look somewhere else ( bel air , td , rbc)

Unfortunately State Farm does not offer employee discounts. I pay what you pay. RBC is only cheaper because I get the household discounts since my mom is with RBC. I’m saving about $90ish per month! However, I also have 2 potential speeding tickets on the way so who the hell knows what is going to happen.

To be honest, I love saving $90/month but I am nervous being with another insurance company. State Farm is a GREAT company. People have had bad experience but you get that with every company. Overall, State Farm is more expensive but you get what you pay for. I know for a fact, if I were to have a loss with while with State Farm I would be looked after. It’s a security feeling being with a great company.

State Farm actually is great for young drivers... as long as they have no at fault accidents or tickets. State Farm is horrible is you have even 1 ticket. However, if you are clean... State Farm is a great choice.

Unfortunately this is not true. I also thought this, but my friend is insurance shopping now and she has a speeding ticket, failure to show insurance card, and improper seat belt system or something.. they ALL count!

I don't know if I've been wrong for a while or if it's a recent change, but why does forgetting your insurance card make you a riskier driver??

Well you are the expert since it appears you work at State Farm, but would they not check his driving record before giving him insurance? It seems improbable that they would cancel him for material misrepresentation, since they have the ability to check his record and it's not a serious thing anyways.

I am no expert, but yes I do work for State Farm... as for insurance companies checking your record prior to taking you as a risk, well yes, they normally do. However, from reading on this forum, other forums and just talking to people in general, it seems not ALL insurance companies check records. I find it hard to believe but again I am only here to give the best generic advise I can. All insurance companies work different. I just say what might and might happen :noidea:

In regards to material misrepresentation, I actually read his post wrong it seems. I thought he meant not telling them about his muffler, I didn't read it as not telling him about his ticket.......
