Insurance Related Questions

1. If I get a engine swap done and I don't report it to my insurance company, how much trouble can I get into?
For instance, what is the likelyhood that they'll find out?
If I get into a serious accident ( total write off ) will the insurance agent look at my car and invalidate my claim because I didn't report the engine had changed? I mean, do they even check this kind of stuff?

2. Currently, I stated to the insurance co. that I drive my vehicle for "pleasure" only and NOT to work. If I get into an accident during my commute, is there anyway that my claim can be rejected? IE, will the claim agent infer that I was driving to work based on the location of the accident and the time of day ( rush hour ) and refuse to compensate me?

Anyone have experience with either of the two scenarios?
Please share!

1.) There is a chance that you will not get paid for the engine whatever its worth which means that the broker will pay u for ur car body n **** only but not for the engine (thats on rare occasions). Then there is one where you might not be paid at all because you swapped the motor and didnt report it to the ministry or anything. But most likely you will get paid for it because brokers are mostly lazy and very giving they always over price stuff (well atleast mine did) and will pay you.

2.) LOL hahhhhahahaha no way in hell can they do that to you or say that to you. 1 reason being that they have no way to prove that you drive this vehicle everyday to work. And secondly you said pleasure but that doesnt mean you dont drive it to work. What if you use it for pleasure more then work? Exactly. They cant do that even if they do just say that you took your car only today for work because ur work ride broke down or sum ****.

Only if specifically stated that the car will not be driven to work (ie. signed a form stating this) can you run into a problem. A friend of mine did this with his car, as he only drives his work truck to work. In his case, it gives him a lower insurance rate.

Actually, I don't ever remember signing anything.
But when I remember telling the agent over the phone that I'd be driving 7000 km / year and for pleasure only. Not to work.
Does that count?

strategy

1) A really good way to manage this situation is to tell your insurance company that you had a new motor installed.

Thats all, you don't need to say that you swapped to a more powerful motor or anything.

2) Its pretty hard to invalidate your insurance, but if you do drive your car to work, you should have it registered as a comuter car, or else you're asking for trouble if you don't and something unfortunate were to happen at the wrong time and wrong place.

i spoke to a couple of insurance reps about this....according to them, if you insure your car as a "pleasure" vehicle.... and then get into an accident while driving to work...chances are, your claim will be paid out..... however, if lets say while your car is parked at work, and someone hits it, or it gets stolen, 9/10 times they will deny your claim based on the fact that the car shouldn't have been there to begin with....

My car was listed for pleasure use.
I got hit when I was driving to work.
Didn't pay a cent for the fix and got some bonus as well.

The way they handle claim is, you DON'T need to tell them where you are going, that's your privacy.

Ok this is what happened after my hit.

1) Sh!t of Fuc
2) Go to collision center, either by yourself or tow truck
3) Paper work at the center and get the picture taken

Next day

4) Call insurance or insurance adjustor will call you, get your car to the body shop and prolly tell you that you don't need to pay the deductable if you were not at fault.

5) Go to one of the bodyshops that the insurance company listed for a quote.

6) *Optional* Use that quote and go to the bodyshop you usually deal with

7) Get your car fixed and get a rental

8) Wait for your car get fixed while you get the toy with a rental

9) Pick up your car after a few weeks maybe and move on

Notice that the whole process insurance company didn't ask me anything about work or where I went? Let's say you work in a mall and you got hit, just say you got hit in that freaking mall. Why do you need to tell them you work there??? You don't even need to say you were working or shopping there. Just say " I WAS IN THAT MALL" will do.
