Insurance rates and speeding tickets.
Hi,
I'm just curious how much your insurance went up after your first speeding ticket? Also which insurance company do you deal with.
I heard with some companies that you get a 'one-free-b-' before they jack your rates.

you're insurance will go up but not by much...when you get a ticket the insurance company doesn't have to pay for anything. However, when you get into an accident, especially if it's your fault, the insurance company has to pay to fix your car. Accidents have like a 100% bigger impact on your rate then tickets do. Go to www.insurancehotline.com and do a few quotes with a certain amount of tickets. Then do the same quote but add an accident to it and see the difference.

Speeding tickets really start to affect your rating when you get a number of them. Got a buddy that had a some speeding tickets along with some other tickets, he paid them all, but the insurance hiked up his rates. What he should have done is go and contest some of them. One ticket is not going to do that much to your rating.

You usually get one or two tickets free, but if you're a new driver, even one speeding ticket can cost you in higher insurance premiums.
Insurance companies assess "risk points" (different from demerit points) for every ticket you get, based on the type of ticket you get. If you are a new driver with less than 4 years of driving experience, risk points for most tickets are doubled.
Once you accumulate 4 risk points or more within a rolling three-year period, you are eligible for insurance surcharges and even referral to the Facility auto insurance and its much, much higher rates.
Basic insurance risk point table is at http://www.ilap.com/signature/facility.htm .
