Insurance questions!

Okay, yes, ANOTHER thread about insurance..

I'm having my dad call a few companies today with my info and the car I'd like to see if he can get quoted with me as a secondary driver. Is there anything specific I should tell him to say or not say?

Also, what companies DO allow mods. I plan on getting a cheap, beat up civic that I can work on and learn a lot about. nothing major. Probably a motorswap and a few small power adders (intake, headers, exhaust, clutch and tranny, etc.). No turbos or anything, no huge fancy body kit, no fancy stereo. But I've heard too many horror stories about people getting screwed by insurance when they get in an accident because of mods.

I've got belair direct on my list and statefarm so far. Although I don't know if statefarm allows engine mods and such. I'm reading conflicting info... Also, with statefarm, is there any broker specifically I should call in scarborough, or will they all give me the same rates?
What about Desjardins? RBC? PC Financial?

Thanks guys.

(I know TD has great rates, but they don't allow mods)

Someone on this forum said that TD allows either swaps or turbos, I don't remember what it was. Call them anyway.

I work for State Farm, technically speaking we don't allow mods either. But it depends on the agent that you speak to. Some agents are more willing than others to take on a modified car.

Like technically speaking the only insurance company that will for sure insure you are on the facility market (high risk) so you're going to be paying pretty high on it.

The way to look at it is it depends on what kind of coverage you were looking for on your vehicle, if you were just looking at getting liability coverage then it doesn't really matter because the insurance company wouldn't be paying you out if something happens to your vehicle anyways.

BTW don't bother trying to call PC Insurance, they don't exist anymore

Wouldn't they say, "Since you put in that turbo, or swapped your old engine for a more powerful one you're likely going to use that power and end up in a high speed accident and we don't want anything to do with that." ?
