Insurance policy need help!

Well i've just purchased another civic and here's the deal. I've got the car cert already and so on, but i'm using a temp plate 10 day trip permit. I already have a EG hb and i've brought a older civic for other purposes. I was driving to school and i see the cop just sitting there doing nothing trying to pull someone over because i just turned into this street. So i just ignore him because i wasn't speeding or anything. I run into a stop sign. After the stop signs he pulls up behind me and pulls me over. So i pull over. He told me license, plates, i said i have a permit, so he looks for the expiry date but he doesn't know how to look at it so i taught him. I told him i've just purchase the car not too long ago and i've just got the temp plates trip permit. So he looks at all the paper work and the tax and everything. This car is fully mod like a multicolour paint job and stuff. Anyways that's not my pt. He wants me to show the insurance to him. I got the policy # and the paper for the insurance, i give it to him. He looks and say this isn't the paper and i have no insurance for the car. I'm like this is a temp permit that's why i'm using that policy # because u are allowed to use my current policy # for the temp trip permit rite? Is this correct or not? I've done it many time and had no problems. I even told my dad to call the insurance company a while back ago and he told me if i get a car and use it for temp things will be covered for temp plates only. So anyways. The cops was like i need to tow your car because it doesn't have insurance. I'm like it does have insurance, just for temp. He's like where i don't see it. I told him u are allowed to use the policy # for the temp trip permit. This is my insurance company too on my eg civic and my dad's acura. So he's like this insurance isn't under your name. I told him that's my dad's name he's like u can't do that. I'm like why not? He buy's insurance and the car is under his name for instance. I'm like everyone is like that. Then he's like well if u get caught by other police or something u will get fine or something. Anyways that's not the pt.

He went and try to call my insurance company but couldn't get a reach of them and wrote all my license plates and all the info down. He's like i will make sure and find out about it and if i need to i will give u a ticket for no insurance. I said u can find out and let me know. He's like u can go to court if u want. I never received any ticket at that time but he wrote all the info he's got on another piece of paper with my insurance and everything. I heard that no insurance the fine is $5000.

So what do i do now? Just wait for the ticket by mail or something? Can someone tell me that u can use your own policy # for the trip permit on your other vehicles.

I ask my teacher and he knows a lot about law stuff. He told me to tell insurance company to write u a letter saying that this car is covered during the 10 day trip permit then i'm save, if not i can be ****ed. Because my dad did spoke to 1 of the people that work in the insurance company more than a year ago and i've been doing this ever since i have brought a new car. This is like my 8th car that i've done this on or more and i've never had a problem.
Can someone give me a straight answer?

Thanx for your appreciation for reading it.

listen...i'm pretty sure he's not going to send you a ticket, that cops an idiot, if you didn't have insurance he would have gave you a big *** fine, he was just being a moron on a slow day trying to give you a hard time, he's not going to mail you a $5,000 ticket, and if he is, just get your Insurance company to write up that you are allowed to use it and take it to court, the judge is 100 times smarter then the fuken cops and when you go to court the judge actually listens to what you gotta say and he'll know better, but like i said, i'm pretty sure your fine

my friend's insurance slip was expired.. he didn't have a new one... we got pulled over cause his head light was out... cop said he couldn't contact the insurance company at night.. or check if he legitimately had insurance... he let my friend go.. but he wrote down info and said he was going ot check.. if he wasn't insured, cop said he'd send him the ticket.

no ticket was ever recieved. I guess if they're not sure with insurance, they wait until they know what to do... call your insurance company.. tell them ALL the details.. and see what they say. if they say you're okay.. you're good to go!

The MTO offices have been issuing 10 day permits to anyone that simply writes down a policy number and the company name. Maybe they should be more strict about that but they arent. But by doing that, it creates a problem.

The originator of this post thought that since he convinced the MTO that he has valid insurance by simply writing down the info, the police will also be convinced as easily.

The police must be shown a valid insurance card. Producing a valid 10-day permit is not sufficient proof of insurance. Your insurance company may allow you to switch vehicles prior to notifying them, but they usually only let you get away with that for a few days. For example buying a new car on friday evening, and notifying them monday morning.

Just because the cop didnt lay any paper on you that day dosnt mean he never will. Police have 3 years to charge someone for driving a car without insurance.
