Insurance for "modified" cars
Just wondering what insurance companies are you guys using to protect your investments, especially the highly modified ones like show cars?
|
i would say search.. but the search is disabled.
|
I tried getting quotes from a few companies a while back and I mentioned the car would be modified and as soon as I said that, they all said "nope, we won't insure it if it is modified". However these were not specialty insurance companies either.
Search around the net and see what you can find... |
i found nothing
|
PC Financial insured my civic with everything on it. I had to fill out a form and pictures. My insurance went up, but it's the price you pay.
|
just curious, can you gimme an idea of the insurance hike? like was it 1.5 times what you normally pay, double? etc..
|
i heard johnson and johnson unifund doesnt care if u modify, and of if u do they will just get eveything down photos and receipts and adjust ur premium
|
Oh you have no idea how much I searched, and not just TCC. All I found was a company call Lant & Co which is underwritten by Aviva but they only insure classics (15 yrs old/older).
I will try PC financial and Johnson/Johnson unifund and report back. |
PC financial said no and JJ Unifund as well :S
|
i just tell them im not modified...if they send a guy to look at it ur screwed, i get minimum coverage anyways so if my **** gets damaged then i just replace it using cash cuz thats what i bought the parts with. i look at it if i was insured with all that stuff and i get in an accident, the last thing i want to do is make a claim and have my premiums go up, so i'll take my chances.
try belairdirect? |

Most companies panic if you mention mods cause they automatically think your gonna go out speeding and racing all the time, or that it will get stolen....
I never heard of any company that insures modded cars, only ones that insure classic cars. |

I never heard of any company that insures modded cars, only ones that insure classic cars. I was talking to a representative of RBC Insurance and he said that they usually dont insure modified cars but I still got him to give me a quote. He said to call back and try to get the quote "reviewed". I think he was just being optimistic but Ill give it a shot. |
Have you tried Direct Protect or Belair direct?
|
Which is why I feel the contradictory because on one end, Police has a guideline for legal modification meanwhile, insurance companies is saying “no” to all of them.

I think this is illegal....lol. If an insurance company thinks that you are a "risk" because of the car you drive, isnt it called discrimination or vehicular profiling....lol.
Anyways search will continue on tuesday, enjoy your long weekend :) |

Originally posted by ERTW so you think that a 1981 civic should cost the same to insure as a 2008 M6? |
Lant doesnt want to insure classic Hondas afaik, probaly due to all the negative attention from the press, public and law enforcement. Dont even bother with Bel Air, they send people out to take pictures. Only in Ontario we have these problems, in the States they dont give a **** (and before anyone argues with me im speaking from experience, your wrong)
