Insurance: Modded civics a Big No No

My insurance company cancelled policy for my 1993 Civic because:
"""RULE #24: Car modified for enhanced speed, or racing""""

Im sooo vex because only thing I did to my car was d16y8 swap(from a 2000 civic si), intake and Exhaust and my car is STILL slow.

I dont know how to challenge this dis, so I said kcuf it, and just bought a 2001 Chevy Malibu :D (3.1 v6 170 hp :D) Fully loaded, leather interior and sunroof for about 3600$

I didnt want to waste time to complain and argue with them when I can get something bigger and faster.

How did they know?
My insurance co. requires every car to go thru a 'checkpoint' inspection place where they take pics of your car(inside and out). I guess the guy wrote down 'performance exhaust and intake' and cuz of that the clueless insurance people automatically think im a street racer (they watch too much movies).

But beware to all you guys who mod your civic excessivly... insurance companys are a bunch of  rectum rapers who love grabbing money any way they can. If your getting insurance, make sure ur car is bone stock when/if you get your inspection done.

One question: How would I be able to argue this legaly? or is it my fault for going to the inspection with an intake on??

Heres some pics of my car:
-originally it was a RUSTER white lx 1.5l
-swapped in a d16y8(from a 2k civic)
-little ram intake
-Muffler
-Painted Jetblack
-17" Rims with low profile tires (205/40R17)

I love my civic, even tho it was slow, still fun to drive(5spd), I put ALOT of work into it and its sad to see it go, never EVER left me stranded on the road.

"""RULE #24: Car modified for enhanced speed, or racing""""

Why did you install an intake & exhaust? To get more HP? hmmmm

Eurotuner00 27-Nov-2006 10:58 PM

Cynikal.Mindset 27-Nov-2006 11:21 PM

I dont know how this happens to people...I've owned many civic/crx in different states of modification and insurance has taken pictures and inspected all of them and I have never been dropped or threatened

how old are you?
do u have any tickets?
etc etc

Eurotuner00 27-Nov-2006 11:37 PM

what insureance did uhave? i mena i didnt have my insurence takin any pics or calling me n askin me abt my car i just want to be ready for the future if they do do it... there must be a reaosn y? they did n do it to osem poeple cars n thats what i would liek to find out

spike 27-Nov-2006 11:54 PM

Well when i crashed my 98 civic over 3 years ago,it was mod, and they did not know about it, and i claimed the crash under insurence, and i still got money from it, after they saw the car was modded.

Cynikal.Mindset 28-Nov-2006 12:05 AM

insurance companies inspect and take pictures depends on the car and how they feel...they do this so 1. they no the condition of the car they are insuring 2.the car actually exists 3. to see if you have any anti theft devices installed etc (could reduce premiums) 4. so they know what they are insuring (a heavily modified/expensive car etc) and ajust the premium/policy accordingly

No, not for HP, for greater FUEL Econnomy.

plus an intake/muffler barley does anything for HP.. not like I had a b16, or a turbo or nos.

My insurance co is called 'Pafco' they had and styll have the best rates for me.

-Im 21 yrs old
-no suspensions
-clean record, driving school, like mabye 1 spd ticket.
-had my g license for 3yrs now

I still believe that dropping a policy because of MINOR mods is uncalled for.

Cynikal.Mindset 28-Nov-2006 01:55 AM

Xscorpio 28-Nov-2006 03:23 AM

i got my car done before it was modded, just alarm and system......and i told them i dont want to include my system in the poilicy so he didnt check the box, and i got the copy of rthe forum.

im with pafco too, i recently switched to them. I was told that i may have to go to a checkpoint, im waiting for it in the mail. I had one done about a year ago with my old insurance company but i didnt want them to see any mods so i put stock everything back on it :) and thats what im gonna do again if i need to

yep, i'm gonna boost my odyssey with 15psi... that's a sleeper van hhahhaha

back to topic:
it all depends which insurance company you're using... some actually allow you to lightly modified as nowadays, even dealerships carries aftermarket exhaust or intake, some dealer even offer supercharge package. i guess your insurance company doesn't take any risk in modifying that's why they can offer you a cheap rate. not all insurance company requires ur car to a checkpoint, they take into account on several things, your record, your car's age (if 10 years old, often inspected), random checks. i've never required to get inspected on all my purchased vehicles i've switched 4 different cars in the past 3 years already. i know statefarm insures turbo cars haha. i know belairdirect allows upto certain amount of modification =)

good luck
