insurance and lowering

Just curious, how many of you guys contacted your insurance company when you lowered your cars?

If you didnt and you were in an accident, did the insurance ever try to deny your claim? I was having a discussion with someone earlier and they mentioned that you should always let the insurance know if you lower your car.

If you did let them know, did they raise your insurance?

Just curious

i never told them because im with pafco. and when they take a picture of your car at their checkpoint, if they even see an exhaust or an intake they'll cancel you. So what they dont know cant hurt em.

some insurance companies don't actually care what parts are on the car, as long as the parts aren't part of the claim. Its like if you get your car broken into, and claim a stolen deck or laptop, but didn't tell the insurance company you had those things in the car - they will simply say... too bad. here is book-value.

I think that is a more fair way of dealing with claims. You didn't report it, then don't claim it. Fair for both sides.

But getting dropped because the car is lowered even within legal boundary is kinda futile IMO.

the big question is how did you get busted?

i'm going through this right now... i need to change insurance policies because the car is being transferred to my name... i just talked with an insurance rep and basically he said they will take pics and decided whether or not they will insure you...

anyone declare what they have? what were your experiences?... or does anyone know of a car enthusiast-friendly insurance company?

so what is the verdict? Tell or not tell?

Claims

I will just tell you as brief as possible....

A friend was over had his car rear ended in my driveway....called insurance....adjuster came to look at claim but all body parts were an aftermarket kit and the car was lowered without their knowledge...Needless to say he had 24 hours to return it to factory height and go to visit Pafco for Pics or the insuance was pulled on it....

Also had a Girlfriend who had her Civic stolen and the insurance would not cover cause she had an engine swap done the week prior and she had not told them....

So regardless you tell they nail you in the costing of the insurance or if something happens you are not covered for the reapirs....

but it can hurt you when you get into a wreck and they see all the mods on your car and decide not to cover your claim

chrisk20 11-Jul-2007 12:47 AM

If you have ANY mods done you will be cancelled, its a double edged sword, you will never win. Id be more than happy to pay a higher premium to drive a modded car but in Ontario insurance companies are in bed with the government and they do whatever the hell they want

Belair direct has been very very good to me they just ask if i have more than 1500 in mods and adjust the insurance accordingly
