Unhappy Insurance inspection soon :S what to do? anybody with experience help

I just insured my 92 SI and the broker called me a week later to tell me that the company wants my car inspected. I called the closest inspection centre they have to me to find out what the inspection is about and they told me that they check the milage, VIN/serial numbers and check for any performance modifications. I bought the car a month ago as a shell and i just threw a B16 in it.

I worried about the part of checking any performance mods because not only do i have a motor that didn't come with the car but i also have a header/intake. The intake can be taken care of by just borrowing a stock airbox from someone but i'm still stressing. The exterior is still stock looking with no physical damage and it's currently not lowered. If anyone can help me or advise me on what to do besides the airbox i'd appreciate it. The other thing i could do if they question the motor/ header or the motor is say i bought the car like that since they can check to see i recently bought it. This is the first time in all my cars i've had a company request an inspection. I just don't want them to cancel on me because i'm screwed that way. I'm already paying a trillion dollars and i don't need a cancellation on my record.

Thanks in advance

They might drop you because of your motor
What you can do is take another valve cover shave off the DOHC and the VTEC label and you might be safe as most insurance just look for stuff like that and especially if your car was never DOHC they might not insure. The airbox might be fine and the headers shoudln't be a big deal

The car originally came with a 1.6 single cam vtec...i was thinking to play it dumb and say i bought the car like that and i researched the motor and i saw it was a 1.6...which is the same displacement..however i didn't know it was a twin cam..

Once you are insured with a company, they don't ask for an inspection after the first one. So any modifications after that, the company doesn't know about them.

I say you just remove ANY signs of modifications on the outside, and they won't even bother to check the engine. Get some steelies with hubs, and make sure NOTHING looks modified on the outside.

Your best bet.

If they see you have a B16 you will be dropped, VIN/mileage check my ***, they are inspecting your car to see if your a streetracer *rolls eyes*. What you need to do is return what you can back to stock, put on the airbox etc etc etc, take your valve cover and shave off the DOHC VTEC and paint the whole thing black, if they do question the b16 just act stupid and make if seem like you dont have a clue what they are talking about

Perth Insurance. I'm not going to shave off no DOHC VTEC..the exterior looks stock and i currently had some steelies on the car. I know what you guys are saying about them just taking photos...but they guy from the place said they check for performance modifications also. All i can do is hope for the best. They had to understand that the motor is a replacement motor..the car has 296xxx kms on it and the hatches came with them in japan..thus that was the motor available.

But ofcourse i'm not going to explain all of that...because i'll be acting like i don't know what they're talking about.

you will probaly get away with the B16 if your car is stock looking, if I were you id take the DOHC VTEC away, that sticks out like a sore thumb and they dont give a **** that you didnt know, you will be cancelled and once that happens goodluck.

Engine swaps are not illegal, but most insurance companies that know you have mods will drop you and you will be blacked flaged like your a drunk driver that killed someone. Ever insurance company will quote you some stupid rate because your now high risk. It's just stupid. Cops can catch you by reporting it to your insurance company.

Some guys have reported getting droped for haveing just an intake.

Guys have said some insurance companys will insure you. I've tried to swap a DOHC 1.6 (SIR) for my SOHC 1.6, like 15 insuracne companys told me no. It's street racing.

If you engine looks stock, nothing fancy, even if it is not the stock engine the car came with you should be OK. But if they notice you do have an engine swap, you may have an issue.

It appears that all the people that do mod their cars, don't tell their insurance companies. Basically to me, it's a gamble. If I'm wrong, someone please tell me otherwise. This has been my experience so far.

Good luck dude.

thats total bull **** i hate insurance companys... my car has ****en 102 hp does it not maybe pass by someones head that i don't want to street race i just want a car that will go faster then a kid on a skateboard... god dammit... to me its not about racing its about control of the vehical... my car has no power on highway driving if some dick is about to come into my lane i can't just speed up and get out of the way i have to slam the breaks or turn into the next lane which will most likly cause an accident... i hate the lack of control... im just trying to bring my car up to todays norm... ****en idiots

another questions though... what if they car has basicaly every mod besides an engine mod... like my car has skirt/lips all around, rims. headlights, interior done, muffler, breaks, suspension and audio... all done but i don't have any engine mods its a stock dx engine... if i wanted to move over to another insurance company would they not take me... even though i don't have any engine work done...

I'm just going to put a stock airbox on and hope for the best. I was thinking of taking off the header but that's a lot of work because i have to find a stock 02 sensor bong piece. Hope they don't say anything about that. The car has exhaust done.

Its your gamble, its not hard to shave down the DOHC and vtec on your valve cover and if ever you wanted another one that SAYS DOHC and VTEC its like 70 bucks

To me
70 bucks vs 12,000 Insurance / year is alot better bet.

You can take the gamble but don't cry when insurance owns you.

The last time my car was hit and at the shop, they told me the insurer popped the hood and named everything I've done to my car. You don't think that with all the press around street racers
that insurers don't look at certain cars belonging to those in a certain age bracket? Just hope you get lucky and the rep isn't a *****.
