Insurance Inspection

Hi everyone, I just got my 93 hatch on the road this weekend. And my insurance company wants me to go for an "inspection", i need some advice so i don't get my insurance cancelled, my car has a aftermarket cat-back(loud), And an aftermarket steering wheel, plus its lowered but not tucked. This is the way i bought the car and i was wondering if i should remove the exhaust and the wheel for the inspection. Any help will be appreciated.

When i bought my car, their "inspection" was just to check that what's on the bill of sale, matches what's on the car. Not sure if this is the same inspection you are talking about. I was under the impression that as long as the mods are legal, and safe, they will just note anything that has been altered from the car that is different from stock.

I had to do that with td insurance. The inspection was a lot more than just veriify if the car matches whats on paper. I wouldnt worry too much about what you have under the hood as they never ask me to open it (although my mazda 3 is stock)

However i know for a fact that TD does not cover a car that has been lower , i m not sure about the exhaust as they never ask me to start the car.

They also check for crack windshileds, rust, inside the car to see the condition of your seats. Mostly things that are visible.

Although you can always convince whoever is doing the inspection to let you pass ( bring 40$ OR SOMETHING) .

I tried to change my civic to td but they refused to insure it because it has been lower and even if i convince the guy to pass it , TD may refuse to pay for any damages in case of an accident

They just do that to see what condition your car is in. This is usually done when you purchase full coverage. They will check for scratches, condition of paint, ask you if it has alarm, ask you to engage/disengage. They will also ask if you have rims, and see if you have a 'system'. They are going to check your spedometer to see how many clicks you have on it.They need to know the condition of the car in a case you make a claim. They wont care about the exhaust...its fine as long as your car isn't riced out.

With TD here.

Car: 94 civic CX
- 2" drop
- 17" rims
- Magnaflow cat-back, High-flow cat and DC headers
- Momo 14" steering wheel
- CAI
- JDM SIR Gauge cluster
- Aftermarket stereo

My inspection was at the licensing office in Parry Sound. They took pictures of all 4 sides, Door jam for VIN, VIN on dash and gauge cluster for odometer reading.

They asked me about the exhaust, i told them it was for show. The hood was never popped.

^^ LOL you got lucky, I have a 1995 olds achieva 2 door (winter car) they spent 3 hours looking that car over. And took a picture of every scratch.

I guess it all depends on the inspector.
