Just a point for the future, and you're not the first one to post about a situation like this. Don't cancel your insurance until you have found another policy which is cheaper than what you have now. Especially if your insurance just got raised because of something that was your fault, i.e. crashes or tickets.
You have to disclose to your new insurance company everything that your old company knew. That means that the next insurance company you talk with views you exactly the same, risk wise, as your last company, except the new company doesn't know if you're going to pay on time.
I hope you find a company that gives you a good rate and if you don't find anything cheaper than what you were paying before, I hope your old company will take you back at the rate you walked away from.
As far as companies: RBC once gave me cheap insurance when I was under 25. If you are a UofT student or an engineer or another group which has a relationship with Meloche Monnex, they are a good cheap company as well.
