insurance cancellation fee $500
i'm i the only sucker that was hit with a $576 fee for ME cancelling MY policy.
when i sold my last car after only having it for 2months, my company said if i cancel the policy they will withdraw a fee of $576.
is this legal??
how come everybody i've talked to has never even heard of such a rip off?
to avoid the fee i was forced to buy another vehicle asap
any thoughts???

fairly standard thing....usually it up to them if they wanna hit you with it or not, i could see why they did it with you since you only had the policy for a short time.
i will be cancelling mine soon aswell and if they try and hit me a fee i'll just keep it with my company until renewal...then just won't renew.

You were cancelled short rate. The penality is more since you are so early into your term. Its a pretty standard thing. The insurance companies have computers that calculate it in a percentage of your total premium.
I think you are pretty stuck, you may want to talk to the Ombudsmen of your company to see if they would give you a break.

well if u sold your vehicle i dont think you should be charged for that its only if u cancel your policy due to anything else other then vehicle being sold.
i think they are ****ing with u. talk to them firmly and tell them to suck on a lemon.

You can notify your bank that you are no longer with that insurance company the second you get off the phone with them and that they should no longer authorize any withdrawals. That way they will have to come to you to get the money.

A lot of people still pay their insurance 6 months at a time, in advance. In such cases, the insurance company already has your money and will just deduct their short-cancel charge from the balance of the cancellation refund.
