did the cop check to see if there were baffles in the muffler?
as far as i know, it needs baffles to be legal.

The cop can say anything. How can you argue with him?

First off its Decibel level, not nesabel. Yes you are right, there is no decibel level law in Canada.

Yes the cop give you a ticket for an improper muffler at his/her descreation. If the cop feels that your muffler is too loud, he/she can give you a ticket for excessive noise, and other reasons.

Why does a cop need a mechanics license??? A mechanic license only shows that you are certified to work on a car. Just because you have a mechanics license, it doesn't mean you know the law.

Cops = Law
Mechanic = Fixes cars

I thought I'd post the job descriptions for ya.

Umm. Police Officers enforce the law.

Lawyers - practise and know the law.

As long as the muffler is branded as street legal - helps if you kept the box, it's legal as it conforms to DOT/MOT standards.

Been there, done that, won that.

Unnecessary noise means just that, unnecessary noise. Is it completely unnecessary to have loud aftermarket exhausts when both OEM and quite aftermarket exist..no, so its unecessary. I see dozens of ricer imports daily that deserve a ticket. They think this loud *** exhaust soundz coolz and/or gives their mad tight VTECH (yes spelt wrong on purpose) Yo extra 20 horzepower.

Well, if another ****ing integra goes by my house at 3am and its so loud I can hear it inside, I may call the cops myself

Canada does not have a decibel level like Califirnia does. I firmly believe if we did, it'd be clear cut. 91 db = legal, 92 is not type of thing...but i don't see that coming any time soon.

I've won many of these B.S. ticket's in court, those of you that remember my CRX remember it was damn loud! I didn't read all your post but I'll tell you how to win them.
1) If he gave you improper muffler, your laughing, you won it easily! When you go to court take the receipt you got when you purchised that muffler, that say's AFTERMARKET OEM REPLACEMENT!! Now it's up to the officer to prove what's improper about it! 99% chance he can't. If he starts saying that it's too loud, we'll he should of wrote you up for un-necesary noise! That one usually you can't win as it's up to the officer descretion for noise pollution.

2)He nailed you for not signalling? Yeah you did, you used your hand signal's cause you were on the way to buy a replacement bulb for your rear taillights!

doggy69247, yes there is dcb level's in Ont. and it doesn't have to be metered,in other words you can't tell the officer to give you a dcb reading. It's up to the officer's descretion on if your causing excessive noise. I would just pay those.
