how to deal with accident?

Hello all,
yesterday I was involved in a very minor accident on the qew. To sum it up quick it was around 7:10am and i was about 1 1/2 car lengths back from the car in front, everyone stopped quickly i tried to do the same I slid and tried pumping breaks and getting out of way... I then hit his driver side rear bumper coner with my passenger side front bumper. So we got out looked at his damage and hes like do you have cash, which i didnt so I said no and we exchanged infomation (not insurance) and hes like ok ill get it fixed and you mail me cheque (at this time he said 100$). At this time he gets in his car and drives off, so I get a call today saying he reported the accident and I need to do the same from the police. So I get up (wanting to get this over with asap) and go there and report the accident. On my way out from reporting it The man i hit calls me and says look its going to be more that what I thought (still under 1000$) very few scaratches on his car from what i can see so I said ok Ill pay you for it? Not wanting to go through insurance and neither does he, Hes like look you can pay the dealership for the repair. I asked him if I could get a recipt when I do that and he said that I can go to dealership pay for it on his account then he just get it fixed when he can(that is what he wants to do) or when he gets it fixed I just pay him then.

Now im confused because I already reported the accident so does that mean they will go to insurance? And if I get his car repaired do i tell collision centre/police? And I guess I have no choice but to do what he says with going to dealership and putting it on his account because if not he can go to insurance. I Do not really know what I can do here.

reporting to the collision centre automatically reports the damages to the insurance company. the police fax it over to them.

if the damages are below your deductible i recommened paying him out right in cash. if the damages exceed your deductible you might aswell call insurance up because they know an accident already exists it is all up to them if they wanna make that go against you or not. so talk to them and find out.

If I were you I probably get him to sign something saying that you paid him so he can't come back to you saying he didn't recieve the money.

This is off of RBC's website:

Q: I've had a minor accident and don't plan to make a claim. Do I still have to tell my insurance company?

A: Yes, you do. Your insurance coverage is based on your driving record and your insurance company needs to know all the facts. In addition, if you were involved in an accident with another vehicle, the other driver may claim from their insurance company - and their insurance company will communicate with yours.

Personally, I wouldn't report if it is a minor accident as long as he agrees not to report it to his insurance company.

if no one reported the accident to the insurance than they wont find out. Police DO NOT send accident reports to the insurance companiesr

If the damage is under $2,000 for both vehicles its considered a non-reportable incident. Were you charged?? What did the report say??
