Hit a car what to do now

my neutral car slid into someone behind me at the gas station... stupid me but there is a 1inch scratch on the ladies bumper.... what is the best thing to do... she wants a new bumper.... Anywhere I can polish out a scratch????

imported_BoOsTd 17-Dec-2003 06:37 AM

post this in the exterior forum for more feedback...

as for your question, it depends on the depth of the scratch, if its just a surface abraision, then some rubbing compound or a claybar from canadian tire might be able to buff it out... and of course it will take some elbow greese :D I have no clue how much a body shop would charge to do this for you... I doubt the cost would be very much..

but if its deep, then you might have to get it repaired and repainted for her (estimated cost 150$ for repaint).... If the skin is broken right through, then yes a new bumper is likely required, depending on the type of car (material) most shops wont repair cracked plastic/ uerethane bumpers cuz in the end the labour will = the price of a new skin... this price will vary from car to car, for a civic, you will probably be looking atleast 300$ at a body shop...

goodluck

i would definately suggest not going through insurance thats for sure

imported_toyman29 17-Dec-2003 09:31 AM

yeah, just bring it to a shop

im sure the lady wont be happy if u buff it.. b/c it wouldnt take it away totally
well depends what kind of car she has
new expensive one? or old crap one?

u could bring it to a cheap bodyshop.. they'll paint it for u for cheap

fawk her... a gas station is a parking lot private property, so her insurance has to cover hers... it's a NO FAULT ACCIDENT as far as I know.

call your insurance annonymously and tell them what happened, and tell them you don't want to claim your car. She claims hers, if she wants, but it goes through HER insurance. Since it's no fault or 50/50 fault, and it's so small, it prolly won't go any further than that. Post this in our insurance forum, and maybe Insuranceman can give you a better idea of how it goes.

I say that bump is no deeper if you neutral slide into her car. A new bumper? Gee...

I would offer her 150 for a nice repaint job (she probably has a **** load of stone chips on it already, just dieing for a make over). It is the holiday season I am sure she can use some cash.

If she has a car that is under 20K brand new, then I think the above method might work. If her car is 20K to 30K, then you might need to offer a bit more then that. If her car is above 40K, to avoid further trouble and going through unecessary insurance troublesom, pay for a new bumper and call it a day.

Women are hard to dealt with, especially in an accident.

BUT, however, if she parked really, really close to you and for whatever reason, you had to back up to either get to your pump station or to get out, you can also make it her fault. You can argue both way.

Find out for sure, because if you don't work this out, she can lie and screw you over....by sayingg it was on the road.

Call the insurance and find out for sure.....use a pay phone, because they have caller ID.

If they say not to worry about it, then tell the lady to.........(and I always wanted to use this pic)......

I find it funny that alot of you are saying to forget about it and whatnot, and yet I wonder how you would react if it was your car that got bumped, and in turn scratched?

Facts are facts, it was his fault for what happend, so he should be responsible for it.

PULOVR 18-Dec-2003 08:33 PM

When I'm waiting at a gas station, I ALWAYS stay far enough back. I don't stay right behind the guy, unless its on level grond.

My 2C's.

And remember, I said this too-----> :richslap:
