was hit, car ran, what to do?

gist of it:
at work, parked my car (paralleled) behind a red blazer.
5-10 minutes later, my car alarm goes off. i always check every time the
shock sensor on my car goes off because i've been hit twice in parking lots in
the past year.

this time, there's some scuffs and red "paint transfer" (thanks, csi). i was
able to walk out of my store and see the red blazer drive by and i was able to
pick up their plates. two other people came up to me and said they saw it
happen. in hindsight, i should've gotten their contact info.

anyhow. i have the vehicle description AND their plates.
the damage is very small (compared to another scrape on the bumper). some
scuffs that i could probably buff out but a few deep scratches with red paint
in 'em.

should i suck it up?
the thing that really annoys me is that my paint job is only a year old, had it
touched up a few months ago because someone hit my side doors and
another two more bumper hits since then (the first one took off a lot of paint
on the corner of my bumper but no witnesses).

can i post the vehicle plates as a warning to other people to not park near
said vehicle? this is down by lakeshore and kipling.

Write down what time it happened and where, then report it to the police. Take some pictures of the damage, then take the car into the collision reporting centre for physical proof.

I've got sick of the city for the reason of ignorance and rudeness. Make sure dude gets what they deserve.

Try to get the contacts of the witnesses.

Good luck and make us proud.

I agree with Trybal, why would you have to put up with other peoples inability to drive. if the owner stayed behind and dealt like a man, it would be a different story, but since the person decided to run, in my opinion it is unacceptable and he must get what he deserves.

trybal & scryder::
thanks for the replies.

unfortunately, i don't think i can find the witnesses. the area of
lakeshore i'm in sees a lot of people traffic (there's a timmies right across the street from
my work, along with a lot of burger joints and food stores).

if i can't find the witnessess or have witness statements, will it still be worth the time to
go to the local police department and a collision centre?

yeah dude you should have went to a police station and filed a report right away. I think it would be hard to get anyhting from the dude without witnesses. File a report anyway, you might be able to get something out of him. If not, seek someone who can run plates, go to his house and pour sugar in his gas tank haha

trymion 20-Jun-2009 10:28 PM

unfortunately, i couldn't leave work for that long and when i was finally able to get out, both of the local police stations that i know of were closed.

the collision center was closed as well.

i'm going in first thing tomorrow. i don't really care if i get anything out of this, it's
the principal of the thing because i hate shitty drivers in general. at least, this time,
i know who it was (well, their plates anyway).

can anyone here run plates?

Cops will run plates. Report it.

though, since u didnt get contact info of the witnesses, it's hard to prove anything. It's your word against theirs if the cops catch up to them and ask.

If you report it to ur insurance, they'll usually cover hit and run, and not up ur premium, unless u always have hit and run claims

some cops are just dicks. My ex got hit by some stupid ass taxi driver and the dude ran off. We got his license plate and went to the police station. The cop told us we couldn't do this **** it cuz we only got his license plate and we wouldn't be able to point him out in a police line up or something. ****in prick told us to get over it and just pay out of our pockets. luckily all my neighbors were outside their houses and they were witnessses so she was deemed not at fault and the taxi drivers insurance paid for it. moral of the story is....some cops just need to die. lol nah, real moral is always try to get witnesses

This gave me an idea. To have a video recording system that will start recording when your alarm has been triggered, whether it's a warning chirp or full alarm. That would be some awesome proof. Also to have it recording while you're driving.

that'd be sweet just in case you run into a couple of trigger-happy cops haha
