Question Are HID legal on the road today?

I just bought myself a XENON DEPOT 4300K HID KIT for my 05 civic at SPEEDSTAR. I had them installed it this afternoon too, my questions is...is it really allowed on the road? I have asked people at speedstar too and they said on all their customers who has them had never been pulled over. When i went home and since i park my car underground, and when i turned it on-i was so shock of high bright these things are!!! DANG!!!! and really BRIGHT and that's all i can say. i was wondering if i can get pulled over for dang super dupper brightness. Plus it seems like the aiming was high too...should i go back to speedstar and ask them to lower the aiming of the lights?

thanks guys

they are illegal in the united states.
they are not been made illegal here.
BUT it is up to the discretion of the police officer.
if he finds it too bright then you will get ticketed and can possibly have your car towed even if its night to prevent further danger on the road to the rest of the public

the product can be legal but that doesnt make it street legal when installed in a car that never had HID originally.

I haven't had any problems with the cops around hamilton. I driven beside, in front, behind and no problems at all.

You need to make your cutoff back to factory condition and minimize the glare. It is the glare that kills the drive in front of you, not the HID.

Everyone on here knows how bad the glare is off my hid's because of the fluted lens and I have yet to get a ticket or even a warning from all the cops I have blinded. Knock on wood.

Price of HID retro-fit is $700 (german hid components) - $1100 (S2000 or highend japanese components) for single xenon. $400-$800 for HID projectors/ballasts/bulbs and another $250-$350 to have it retro-fitted by someone who knows what they are doing. TSX retro-fit for example, can be had for $800-$850.

the HID kit's are much cheaper, john lo has em for $360-$430 and its self install, so its much cheaper but it also has glare that projectors just do not have.

i just reviewed what i could of the highway traffic act and only problem area i can see is 3000 candela. there are no standards of producing lumens into candela that is accurate, so 3000 candela is not defined and could be a problem. like exhaust noise, some cops jump on it, others are cool as long as its not that loud. so eventually, one of us will get a ticket for hid's being in excess of 3000 candela or vehicle safety issues, but i think it would be very hard for a court to uphold it with there being no det standards.

it does not say, altered lamps or anything to that effect, so this rumour of if its not stock, its illegal is crap, but seems to give too much discretion to police officers which could pose a problem. that said, i know and have heard of many people not being bothered by police as long as they are not aimed for the clouds.

Read the highway traffic act or buy a book that tells u about legal mods if u guys are worried. If u buy those cheap bulbs from pacific mall like those blues ones, they are illegal. U aren't supposed to have blue filaments on the car for the headlights.

Headlights should be either white or yellow.
So i say 6000k would be the most legit. Anything higher than that would be illegal. I have 6000k and i never got pulled over yet by a cop and i aim them really high and i love it.

6000K max, 4500K pure white, 6000K a hint of blue. 8000K+ is just stupid anyways and pure rice since it defeats the purpose of HID in the first place.

That's true The higher K you go above 4100k, the less light output you will have.

I have 8000k HID's, I do not reomenned going over 6000k. I learned my lesson.

Same here, but then again I have projector headlights in my EK and that makes a HUGE difference in the way the light is projected.
