HELP! Ticket w/ wrong license plate #...
A cousin of mine just got a ticket but the officer wrote one digit of his license plate number wrong. he wrote down an "8" instead of a "0". Is this error alone grounds for dismissal of the ticket?? everything else about the ticket is correct, except for that one mistake.

well...ok it happened to me b4
all I did was call the number on the ticket
and tell them that someone gave u a ticket but some of the info on the ticket is not urs ....and they'll probably tell u to discard the ticket coz it won't hold in court
that's what they told me to do.....but that was a parking ticket so I don't knwo if it'll be the same procedure
just give it a try

What was the ticket for? If it's for something like speeding or careless driving, forget about it. The judge can amend the ticket in court if he wants to. (that means he will correct the wrong plate #)
Now if it's for something stupid(muffler, tires rub/too low...stuff like that), Plead not guilty, sign the back and ask for a court date.
When the court date comes, see if you can find the officer that gave you the ticket.(his badge # is on the ticket).and ask if you can talk to him in private. Appologize for the error that you did(speeding/muffler...whatever), then bring it to his attention that the plate # is incorrect. If you were nice to the cop, he'll probably tell you not to worry,he'll tell the judge that there was an error on the ticket(his fault) on the judge will dismiss his case.
That happened to me with a 55 in a 40 zone. I was let go becuase the cop wrote a "U" instead of a "V" for my plate.
Another friend of mine had an attitude with the cop (bad idea on his part).
In court, the cop asked if the ticket could be amended, the judge said yes.......Speeding, 145 in a 100 zone, 4 or 6 points (can't remember) and a BIG fine.......serves him right for his big mouth..
Now you decide what to do.

ok i'll tell my cousin to try that. his ticket was for failing to yield at a stop sign and he caused an accident (yes, i guess it's more serious than a speeding ticket). i dont think he'll get off that easy with it....
he should seriously learn to drive though. already caused two accidents (his fault) and he just got his G2 like a few months ago!

Dude the ticket is given for a diff car, it may not even exist, it wont hold. A friend of mine got pulled over in his dads 740 iL for doing 30 over and the cop wrote downt he year of the car wrong and the judge threw the case out, They cant even do a follow up on that b/c that plate does not belong to your cousin.

from what i've been hearing, apparently the judge can ammend the ticket on the spot and correct any minor errors. i keep hearing that as long as they have your name on their and the charge it doesnt matter what mistakes they make. if the cop can testify against you, the judge will correct any other mistakes on the ticket.
