I've had my full licence for 14 years (yeah I'm old). I've NEVER had an accident or major ticket. When I renewed my policy in February, it went up $25 a month to $163.

When I called my insurance company (Pilot), they gave the story about rising rates, theft, various claims, yadda, yadda. My buddy who is an adjuster/underwriter/claims advisor or something for a big commercial trucking company told me that the insurance companies are trying to squeeze every penny out of us before the governemt takes over. Whether it's true or not, I don't know.

For $434 a month, you could take a taxi everywhere you had to go. Maybe consider buying another car thats cheaper to insure. Move to a different area (T.O. and Hamilton have the highest rates I'm told). Get married, that's what I'm doing.

I highly doubt insurance will ever get taken over by the government, unless we elect the NDP into provincial parliment.... Which would be suicide for big business in this province, so I don't see that happening anytime soon ... the insurance industry makes too much money (as an industry) and employs to many people to be taken over by the government ...

$434 a month? That's just over $5000 a year.

........and driving without insurance has a fine of $5000 if you are caught.

Gee, and police wonder why so many people are driving without insurance now-a-days.
