there are companies that will cover you if you declare all mods done to the car ask insurance man.

for all of you out there:

STATE FARM IS NOT THE ONLY INSURANCE COMPANY OUT THERE

I am with Pilot insurance...they are O.K.....not the greatest, but their rate for me is cheaper than state farm. I havent told insurance what I have done to my car... Basically if I get into an accident it's a lose lose situation......Insurance companies will always find a way to *** u over..

(Insurance companies) Please give me $340 a month and we will not cover you; Guaranteed!" <----------

sf cancelled my Dad's insurance when he told them that he lowered his Sunfire. He wrote an article to the editor in the star a few weeks back about it.

wanna know the funny thing??

ok say you have a modded car... lowered body kit and some other little things... say your car is in an accident... it would in a lot of cases be cheaper for the insurance company to pay for the after market stuff then factory stuff.... but they dont realize that cause we are a menace to society

State farm has been burned big time in the US with modded cars, thats why their taking a stance here before its too late ... They are one of the worst out their for modded cars ... Have a look at Pilot, Allstate, Economical, Co-operators, even Royal .... speak with a broker and let him know your not a crazed street racer and want proper coverage .... they will hook you up with insurance ... if you want some broker names PM me the area you live and I'll give you 3 names ....

I thin if you get in an accident with a moded car, then they will pay for what it costs to bring it to stock, they wont ppay for the aftermarket stuff

I'm not 100%sure though

Some will, but some won't. My friend got into an accident and b/c it was lowered they didn't cover a penny on it, he had to fix it out of his own pocket.

same thing has happened to me with sf.

Luckily my policy ends this Sept. After that I will be hunting for a new insurance company!!!

Again, tho...like said above...sf is giving me realllly cheap insurance. Anywhere else charges an arm and a leg! So its a tough situation. Stock car with cheap insurance or modded car with expensive insurance! OR like most of us...dont say a peep to your insurance company and keep modding!!

I'm getting sick and tired of people complaining about thier insurance. If you want your mods insured then you have to pay higher premiums plain and simple.

Yes I don't understand why lowering a car 1.5" is considered a big deal but it is and we all mod knowing that if we get into an accident they will cancel our coverage and deny the claim if they have not been informed.

I prefer to think in another way. for example my car is roughly worth $7000 the way it stands now. I currnetly pay $100/month for full coverage because me car is classed as a Sunday driver. That's only $600 for the 6 months a year I drive the car.

Now if I told my insurance that I had installed lowering springs they would probably raise my insurance to $250- 300 a month easy just because of the springs. So instead of paying $600 a year I now have to pay $1800 that's $1200 more a year.

If I were to get into an accident at the end of this year my premium's would probably raise even more to the point where I would sell the car rather then paying $400 a month. Now because of the accident no matter what car I drive my premium would be a lot higher then what I pay now.

So in the end it would be cheaper for me to cut my losses and not tell insurance about my mods or claim repairs to my vehicle in case of an accident. It ends up saving you money in the long run.

My $0.02 cents

You guys can't have your cake and eat it too.... Companies think their covering stock vehicles so they charge premium for stock vehicles .... Modified vehicles get a modified premium.... If you don't want to tell and chance it, then by all means do so, but prepare to lose all you've worked for if you get into a serious accident ... Personally, I don't have many mods on my car, tint, a front grill and some lights to match my paint ..... nothing to increase premium, but If and when I do get rims, I'm gonna make sure my company knows ....

Insuranceman,

with informing insurance companies I know I'm going to have to inform them of the paint job I'm in the middle of having done... does this mean my premuims will go up because the car is now worth more....?

its funny how day in day out insuranceman tries to defend his company and line of business in general for the rediculous things...

like say i tell insurance i got lowering springs... these springs say cost me $400.... then i find out my insurance jumps from say $200 a month to $400... so in paying inflated premiums for two months i could afford to pay for those springs if i got into an accident....

you can not justify that... in the next post by insuranceman he will state that " oh my company only makes about $8 million a year from premiums" well hell give that $8 million back to everyone getting jacked in the *** all year long by your company and just stick to getting rich off your investments.

Premiums shouldn't go up for a paint job, but it may change the classification of the car depending in colour (ie red) ....

I have no response for Punk, you obviously hate insurance companies as were all evil and steal money ... sometimes if your a really bad driver we kill your family and sell the body parts on the black market and use the money for investments....You've been given some crap information and wn't be happy til you can drive for free... Have fun ...

Ok I have a question. If I get into an accident with a modified vehicle that insurance doesn't know about and they deny my claim will they still pay out to fix the other vehicle or is that person now gonna sue me for damages?

Thats not how no fault insurance works..... if your at fault for the loss, the other persons insurance covers their vehicle and your insurance covers your vehicle .... so you may be screwed but the other person has coverage under their insurance, just like if your not at fault your insurance stioll pays for your damage, only difference is you don't pay a deductible and your premiums won't go up
