Question Help! I got Summons to Defendant

Hi, I need help!
I have 5 "SUMMONS TO DEFENDANT", not tickets. I was told to attend court to get the tickets.
What should I do?
1) Disobey Sign, Hwy Traffic Act 182(2)
2) Fail to Signal for Turn, HTA 142(1)
3) Driver Fail to Surrender Licence, HTA 33(1)
4) Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, HTA 7(5)(a)
5) Fail to Notify Change of Name, HTA 9(2)

Should I plead guilty and ask to reduce the fines? Btw, how much do these add up to?

If guilty, will my insurance go up?

When I go to court (next wk), do I just get the tickets and set a trial date, if I plead not guilty?
or is that a trai date on the spot?

What happens when the cops don't show up?

Jus go there, and bring your drivers license, Permit for Motor Vehicle, and some proof of your name change.

they hopefully will throw these 3 out, and if your lucky, they might also drop the Disobey sign, and Fail to signal charge

they just want to talk to you and hear your side of the story

they then, if needed, will appoint to u a court date

Ya man, I believe if you are guilty of all of them then it's pretty much safe to say your insurance will goe up. My old insurance company said if I got 4 (i think) tickets then my rates would go up.

If these tickets are the same as regular tickets (never got one of yours before) then if the cop doesn't show you're good to go. Up until recently cops were paid overtime for showing up to court. now they are (increasing the chance that they'll show). So don't go to court thinking he won't show (which was pretty much guaranteed up until a while ago)!

Hope it helps man!

your insurance would go up about 15-20% for the year if you are found guilty for the Fail to Signal & Disobey Sign only.

Hi 1slocivic,
Thanks for responding to my post.
If the cops don't show up, do I plead NOT guilty?
Do I tell a different story than the cop's?

the first meeting you are going to does not require the cop to be there....

if they do not drop the charges, you have 3 options
to plead guilty, guilty with an explanation, or set a trial date
ofcourse you should set a trial date, and within 5-8 months you will get anotice in the mail which will tell you when you have to go to court.

when you are in court, you would have to sign in and talk to the prosecutor who will offer you reduced charges ( always ) u can then accept and pay the reduced charges

If you are not satisfied with the offer, tell the prosectuor you want to continue the trial
IF the cop doesnt show, all your charges are dropped, but if u did accept the offer from the prosectuor, you still have to pay the fine.

Wow, great advice! I guess i'll aim for 2 outcomes.

1) they drop the charges:
What do I do to get such reward? Deny everything,
or it's automatic without me saying a word if the
cop doesn't show up?

2) Reduced charges:
Once again, should I deny everthing, or admit it
with explanation to win the prosecutor's sympathy?

if they dont not drop everything at the first meeting you have (next week), set the trial dates for what they havent dropped

and update us here

*if you go to trial, and the cop doesnt show, its an automatic win for you IF u did not agree to a reduced charge with the prosecutor*
