Has anyone used "POINTS" to get out of a speeding ticket?

I just got a ticket going 79km in a 50 zone. The cop said to go to court and they will lower it so I don't get points. But I know it still affects my insurance premiums. I was thinking of calling Points and see what they can do. Has anyone used them before?

they'll probably just plead it down for you...get you a reduced fine or something, you'll still be hit with a conviction.

highest chance of getting "scotch free" is Redline Legal Services: REDLINE Legal Services :: Provincial Offences Specialists with Traffic Ticket Defence Strategies

otherwise, you might as well save your $$$ and schedule a court date so you can enter the plea yourself, save like $300.

90% of insurnace companies place equal value on all minor speeding tickets, so if its 5 over, or 49 over, its the same in their eyes

try redline legal services

Hey...i got a ticket today too.
74 in a 50 but he lowered it to 60 in a 50. The cop, it was a broad, said theres no points only a fine of 40$. I used pointts theyre alright. they will fight it for you.

I had a no insurance once and i got caught. ended up getting a lawyer tho (retired cop). saved me like 2.5k. for minor stuff plead guilty with explanation....if you have one. best bet. youll get convicted but they will lower the fine...

it will not affect your insurence if it's your first tick. just got to ****ing court like every one else has said, they will lower it down if you just admit you were speeding. And here's a better plan, stop speeding.

Thanks for the responses. I called "Pointts" they said $300, they can "try" to dismiss the ticket entirely... worst case they can lower the charge/fine, in which case I can do myself. I did see that the cop made a mistake on the year of my car, maybe the chances then are better with dimissing the ticket?

1 minor ticket will raise my insurance by like $350/year.

Yeah, I will never speed again...

having the year wrong of your car means nothing, that has nothing to do with it, and if its your first ticket, it should not go onto your insurance, my fisirt speeding tick was 45 over the limit and that was 8 years ago, and it never went onto my licence.

There is no place for the year of your car on a traffic ticket. The year you see is the year of your license plate valtag sticker.

fight it

take a day off work and deal with the hassle. my chick at the time was given a ticket for 15 over, reduced to 10 over by the cop, it was less than $50. i was paying the vehicles insurance at the time and told her to go fight it and she said no. well when the insurance company found out after she payed the fine it went up $50 per month for the next 3 years so it cost $1800 when it was all said and done. trust me i collected the $50 every month from her. just fight it you have 50% chance the cop shows up, and a day off of work to save yourself $1800.

not all insurance companies "forgive" first speeding ticket.

State Farm doesn't and if your with State Farm and a young driver, expect to pay a lot more when they find out about the ticket.

Hope points works out for you and the entire ticket is dismissed.

all depends on the insurance company.. my friend is with TD, she got a speeding ticket, they checked her record upon her renewal, but she didn't see an increase because of it.

you can always call your insurance company and ask them. I guess don't say your name just tell them you have a general question about tickets and how it effects your premium and if the first speeding ticket is forgiven or if it counts.

With TD too, 10 over the limit didn't show. :thumb:

thats good news....im with economical ins. they were the cheapest for full coverage. im gonna switch though, thats why i want to know if they look at that during the renewal.
