Got ticket for improper muffler

What should I plead and what are my chances of winning or getting it reduced? Thanks.

Guilty with explanation...

"The shop told me it was legal but I already changed it back to what it should be"

Hopefully they will drop it.

Just mention you are a student and you have no money blah ******* blah.

Do you remember what the cop looks like? If you do, this is what you should do:
When you get to court, see if you see him in the courtroom. If you dont, then just plead not guilty, and the charge will be dropped. I've probably gotten that ticket close to 10 times over an 8 year span, and not once did the cops show up.

last summer i got 2 tickets up at woodbine/16th.
one was for "improper muffler", and the second was for "unecessary noise"...$220 total...i went to court, cop showed up and everything, i plead guilty with explenation...they dropped one ticket and i had to pay $60 for the other...

i suggest you do the same thing...

ok dude, here's the skinny.
i'm in the process of fighting this charge right now. went to court last week and it got pushed back til september. court ran out of time. i'm pleading NOT GULITY cause i feel as if i can win this. here's why:
i got:
-the reciept of purchase of the muffler
-the reciept of installation from a proffessional shop
-a manufacturer's letter from the muffler company stating that the muffler meets all canadian road and traffic acts.
-my emissions test showing that the car passed with the muffler on...this proves that your car passed the visual inspection stating that my cat was there and all other exhaust bits.

basically my argument is that they didn't preform a deciable test at the side of the road. so it's like a cop pulled you over saying you were speeding, and his measurable device was his eyes.
it's a bull **** ticket man, fight that **** like me.
the cop is going to be on the stand and i'll ask him to please state the hiway traffic act about an insuffiant muffler. nowhere in that act does it say how much the muffler must reduce the noise. now in the transport canada act it does...can't recall off the top of my head but it something like "the vechical's exhaust noise cannot exceed 83db 1 meter away from the vechical." don't quote me, but something like that. but getting back to that measurable device....was not present so where's the hard effidence that i exceeded 83db. does the cop know the difference between 83db and 84db just by using his ears???

hope this helps, and hope you fight it.
btw, i got the manufacturer's letter from the place where i bought the muffler.

welll...it does say:

"Muffler

75. (1) Every motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and excessive smoke, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, straight exhaust, gutted muffler, hollywood muffler, by-pass or similar device upon a motor vehicle or motor assisted bicycle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 75 (1)."

of course you can argue what "excessive" and "unusual" mean but then it's basically your word against the cops.

do a search with "transport canada"

you'll find some good info

*search is down, but try again when it is on, or if you have time, just search manually*

this cop was just being a *****, i was with
SIR POWER that night and he didn't gave me a ticket or pulled me over(not that i'm complaining). He was behind me before he decided to pick on a better looking car and by the way my muffler is almost identical to sir power's and even louder And my friend told me that as long as you have a catalytic converter the cop should have a reason to give you an illegal muffler ticket. this is BS man:fustrated
