front plate: Cops have nothing to do
I'm driving back from Timmies at my break time at work and a cop pulls me over. He asked me why I didn't have the front plate on. I told him that I just got the car painted. Then he tells me that I didn't receive my car back on Saturday (which I did) or he would let me off, and then he gives me a ticket for $110. Oh and I was suppose to go back to the body shop tommorow (Thursday) so that i could get the front grill done and he could mount the plate back on. What should I do to fight this?

take it to court and bring a receipt from the shop (dates included) for the work you're having done. you could also get a signed letter from the shop saying that your plate had to be taken off to do the painting and that it was going to be remounted on thursday.

edit>> actually i'm not sure about the letter part because the author of the letter might have to be present in court as well. can anyone confirm this?
you should just explain to the judge that you had to take off the plate to get your car painted and that you couldnt mount it back on yet because you had to let the paint settle (or something like that). make sure you say that you were going to get it put back on the day after you got the ticket. and show your receipts as proof of this. unless the judge is having a bad day he should let you off.

I believe you are correct that the letter won't hold much water.
What if you said it was stolen/fell off? Does that make any diff in court?

More than likely the Judge will throw out your ticket, have the shop write you a statement to present, with receipts, and if possible have the writer of the statement present. It is not neccesary, but he does need to have himself available to be reached, ie. phone, preferably the business phone. Add this info to the statement.
Good luck.

For the last 7 years I've had my car, I probably got about 10 of those tickets. Only once, the cop showed up. At the time of the ticketing, he told me he will be going if I do decide to fight it. He said all I have to do is show him that the plate is put back on. So, on my court date, he asked me if I put the front plate back on and I said yes. Case dismissed. All the other times, the cop never showed. I got sick of getting pulled over, so I put my plates back on.
