Friend MIGHT be screwed

He just got a call from his insurance company and told him to go to an affiliated shop to get a "checkpoint" inspection done. Somehow they were notified of his mods (police????). But if not they're just seeing if he has done anything to the car.

They said ANYTHING not stock was considered modification. EVEN rims...wtf!?!?!? He told them that he phoned them the day he got the rims (about 3.5yrs ago) to insure them and what not.

This is getting to be too much.

This is actually standard practice with all insurance companies from my recent experiences. From what I was told, unless your car is brand new, you must take it for this "checkpoint" inspection if you are signing up/changing your ins. policy or have purchased a new (used) car. Basically you go an autotrader photo place, and the employee there takes pictures of your car and fills out a form regarding mods. The questions on the form ask about any modifications, so if you lie and say you have none, you will not be covered for them, and if they are visible in the pictures and the insurance company notices them, you may also have a problem.

That sucks man, I just had my Beater insured and the guy came out of the office with his little damage sheet and asked me a couple of questions. Ta Da.........done like dinner. I'm surprised that just because it's bright Orange, he didn't ask me to pop the hood or something. He just said that it was good that I could do all the work on the car myself.

LOL because if you were at fault for anything they would drop you in a second...

Even if you're not at fault, they will try and use the mods on your car, as an excuse to blame you for the accident/claim. THEN they will drop your ass. Whether they honour the claim or not, will be up to them to deceide. :nods:

I've seen it happen to 3 people so far in the past year.
