I didn't realize that there was an insurance section in this site until about a week ago, so now that I've found it, I'd like to offer up some of my experience.

I worked as an Accident Benefits adjuster for nearly two years before I decided to pursue something else. Accident Benefits are those benefits that you may be entitled to following an accident which include: Medical/Rehab benefits if you get hurt and need treatment, Income Replacement benefits if you need time off work, Housekeeping and Home Maintenance benefits if you need help around the house, and Caregiver benefits if you need someone to help you look after your dependents to name a few. I never dealt with the physical damage to car stuff or did underwriting (determining the amount the policy would be based on risk).

Basically, if you've been in an accident and you got hurt, you're entitled to accident benefits. It's part of the contract of your policy with your insurer. You may be asked if you've been hurt when you speak with your insurer when you report the accident and the reason why is because they need to know if they have to open up an AB claim for you.

As far as that goes, obtaining those benefits that you NEED will not affect your rates. What does is fault and risk. So don't feel apprehensive about going for treatment if you need it.
