fccckkkkk got a speeding ticket

Hey TCC,

12:36am I just got home from picking up some parts for me EF and was driving down Bayview on the bridge right before lawrence and cop pulled me over right at the end. He clocked me at 63 in a 50km, I didn't notice my speed cause I was arguing with the gf. So my question is will my insurance rate go up? I'm 19 and I've been driving since March 2010. Please let me know.

Thanks in advance !

Yeah that sucks bro I'm always doing at least 10 over (really bad habit), luckily you get no demerit points for the ticket but I think it will affect your insurance as your convicted of a ticket, my advise to you is take a court go to the justice of the peace or plead not guilty and see what works for you.

EFR 27-Aug-2010 01:02 AM

Thanks for the advice man, much appreciated.

take it to court. It will buy you at least 8 months. I ve been waitin for my court date for 8 months and nothing yet. By the time you get a court date it may be a year.

It will at least buy you sometime ( maybe another renewel) , if you are lucky enough they may drop your ticket

good luck

hey bro,

definitely take it to court! just keep fighting your way through. whats your ef look like?

miss_jess 27-Aug-2010 09:40 AM

haha you actually got pulled over for doing 13km over the limit... THAT SUCKS!

Like already said, take the ticket to court. You might as well take the chance and hope the cop doesn't show so the ticket is thrown out and if the cop does show, oh well at least you tried.

For future reference, any ticket will effect your insurance... improper muffler, improper lane change, speeding, running a stop sign, etc. The only tickets which will noteffect your insurance are parking tickets.

it wil take a toll on your insurance

you could still take it to court. Like i say it will buy you sometime. Court dates in toronto ( downtown area) and around , take a long long time to processed.

There was an article in the stars saying that some people have been waiting for 2 years to get a court date. Some people do get dates and other donts, for what i read it depends on the severity of their case...

When i went to file a court date, the room was packed !!You couldnt fit more people inside the room so i had to wait outside for my number to be called (even outside it was packed) I had to wait 2 hours to file a court date. The guy at the counter even told me it will take at least 6-8 months for you to get a date.

If the cop shows up , there isnt much you can do . But if he doesnt show up then you may get lucky.

in york region i dont know about scarborough, but they have a first meeting where you can meet with the crown attorney i think and talk about it. they will usually reduce it to try and keep you out of court. i remember when i was fighting a reduced ticket i was told if taken to court the officer or jp can return to the original charge.

Been busy with work but I've chose to take the ticket to court. Would I need to hire a traffic defense attorney? Sorry for the noob question its my first ticket and I don't know how this whole process works.

Personally think it would be a waste money for you to hire a lawyer. Fight it yourself, if the cop isn't there you plead not guilty. If the cop shows... cry, tell them you are sorry and you can't afford the ticket because you are in school and that your insurance will increase and it will be hard for you to afford it and you will have to cancel and if you do that then it will be hard for you to get to work to pay for school LOL ...... I've cried to get things dropped.. it can work :thumb:

Yeah don't think twice and definitely take it to court! It's your first ticket, you're a student, was only going 13km/hr over the limit. Like people have been saying here, it will take you a while to get a court date and you can book a first attendance meeting with the prosecutor and explain the above to them. Honestly, I'ver never heard anyone get pulled over for going 13 over the limit. That's such bullshit man good luck with it!

Lol Yeah I think I'm just going to head there alone and see what happens. I doubt the cop will show but you never know. Thanks for the input.

Well I was arguing with the gf and I wasn't paying attention to my speed so technically I didn't have the intention of speeding. But thanks anyways was asking for helpful advice not some smart ass remark.
