Question Engine swapping problem?

Hi, i'm planning a B16 swap in my crx si. I'm currently doing all the research as of this moment, and a good point was brought up by a friend of mine. How will the engine swap affect my insurance? What about the laws? Would I be breaking any laws by swapping a B16 in my car? What other legal issues would I have to deal with by doing this? Thanks for reading!

Ps. I live in Markham Ontario!

Yes it is considered illegal and will void your policy if your insurance finds out.

If you do tell them your insurance will increase.

Furthermore, they might not cover you in an accident if they find out during the investigation process.

Also remember that you can be charged with insurance fraud...

what the.............it should be illegal for insurance companies to do that.... i can understand the raise in insurance, but being charged with insurance fraud and not being covered during investigation.....wow

i mean, if my engine blows, i should decide what engine to throw in my car, not what some insurance company tells me to do, im paying for it, i'll do what ever the heck i want to do with it.

(considering it passes emissions and is street legal)

Some Insurance Co's...

here's an example that might make sence....might not though, sometimes i tend to ramble....

i have a 92 cx, paying only $70/month for insurance.... my copany bases my premiums on the fact that my car has well, a little less power that a supercharged KIA

now, lets say *knocks on wood* i'm in an accident, and at the time my engine was (lets pretend here) a b18c5 with well almost 3 times the power what do you think my company will do when they find out i didn't tell them about the engine

so they base premiums on horsepower numbers?

how can they relate that the accident was because of the swapped out more powerful motor....

im just trying to understand.......(if i ever do)

essentially that's part of the way they look at it.....

the insurance is a lot less for a cx/dx then it would be for a civic Si of the same year.... why? hp#s for one... essentially they are the same car except the engine is more powerful in the Si

the way of thinking is.... the faster the car... the more likely it will get in to an accident

Then how do u explain a 1990 5L Mustang being cheaper insurance than an old 110 hp civic si. I was supposed to buy this mustang and found out that the cheaper insurance was from the mustang over the civic, why? no clue what has more power and more likely to smack a pole or a tree, obviously the rwd 250 horsepower mustang. Insurance companies are nothing but frauds

Part of it has to do with the power of the car, and part of the price difference is due to the difference in the cost of replacement parts. Mustang (domestic) parts are alot cheaper then Honda (import) parts.

What are you gonna do when you swap your motor Jon?

Did you pickup that B18B from Ken?
