Engine Swap. Insured?

Engine Swap. Insured?
I am looking at having a B18c5 droped into my 96EX but I'm having some trouble finding an insurance company that will insure me after I do this. Does anyone have a swap done that their insurance company knows about. Is there something specific I should mention/ask. If you do have your motor insured, let me know what company.

If you DON'T tell them, you're settng yourself up to have your insurance cancelled for nondisclosure and to be denied benefits at a time when you may most need them. You're also setting yoirself up to be put on an industry blacklist.

If you have the paperwork to show the engine is not stolen, and the work was done by a shop that is qualified... and you don't break any laws... You should be ok..Don't do it shady, or you will pay at claim time
Edit: I have dealt with claims where cars are heavily modified and have engine swaps ... The guy lied and we caught him via the dealer that did the swap, so we denied the claim ... same situation, except the guy had all the paperwork, and said the previous engine died, so he replaced it, no problem ...

i kind of find that hard to believe. wouldn't the insurance company want you to replace with the same motor you had before?
and say this was okay with them, will your insurance rates increase when they find out you have the swap even if you had to replace the motor? since you replaced it with a more powerful and expensive motor?

Well, if you replace it with a more powerful and expensive motor, then that in turn raises the value on your vehicle, and they would rate your vehicle based on its value. If they ask you why you didn't replace the motor with the same, just say at the time you could not find the same motor. They really shouldn't be asking why, they should be asking what. What it is, what it costs. You would likely tell your broker this, and give him or her the info, such as receipt for the purchase fo the motor, proof that it was installed correctly, and tested by a certified shop, and likely a picture as well, with a serial #. There not concerned really with the value so much, more of what it is used for, what it is, and typically why it was replaced ... which you can respond, that your engine died and you needed a new motor.

Man I am wondering the same thing, I am not swapping to a Type R but and SIR in my EX.... see I think I have to tell me insurance broken since its my gf's dad (<----Yikes) I'll beat around the bush and see what he says about it. He works for Allstate by the way, so I dunno if it is different for other companies.

From what I heard once when I asked an insurance company, if you declare any mods they can classify your car as a 'hotrod'.. wtH! and then you get raped by the rates even more. almost to the point where i'd just by a fast car cause its cheaper to insure.

I didn't even tell them what kind of motor I was putting in. They didn't ask. As soon as they heard swap, the conversation was over. I even tried the "my engine is blown". They basically said tough. I phoned every insurance company I can think of. As I originally said, I want to install the TypeR. If I can find a company what will do a GSR or SIR, perfect, I'll go that route. Better then what i have now. No one will even gime me the time of day. I got a G, all my stars and still no one will even humor me. Its Bull!

Raped is right!!!! Tell them you're changing the motor? Might as well tell them you're planning to street race. I think it's safer to have the car appraised and notify your insurance company. Either way get ready to pay. But at least it will be easier to find insurance this way.

what if you buy a car that's already like that? (with the swap and all)..... would that be as hard to get insurance as well???
so, most of the people here in the forums that have engine swaps did not declare the swap with the insurance company!?!
